In the Middle of a Whirlwind: 2008 Convention Protests, Movement & Movements
Coordinated by Team Colors Published by The Journal of Aesthetics and Protest Press
"The whirlwinds that blow throughout the social field face consistent attempts by both capital and the state-apparatus to co-opt and infuse their efforts into strategies for maintaining social systems based in exploitation and oppression. When movements struggling to fulfill their needs and desires cannot be successfully co-opted or infused, they’re often targeted for dismantlement. Much of the time social movements face all of the above tactics of capture simultaneously." - From the Introduction

Radical intellectuals explore the relationship between research & resistance. What is the relationship of radical theory to movements for social change? In a world where more and more global struggles are refusing vanguard parties and authoritarian practices, does the idea of the detached intellectual, observing events from on high, make sense anymore? In this powerful and unabashedly militant collection, over two dozen academic authors and engaged intellectuals—including Antonio Negri and Colectivo Situaciones—provide some challenging answers. In the process, they redefine the nature of intellectual practice itself.
Check out this collection on AK Press in which Team Colors members Craig Hughes and Kevin Van Meter have a contribution written along with their good friend and co-author Ben Holtzman: Do It Yourself and the Movement Beyond Capitalism
Join workers for major announcement and on Wednesday, November 4 at noon at General Sam Smith Park at the Inner Harbor Baltimore , Maryland. When workers called foul on abuses at the Inner Harbor they started with the most reasonable path possible and sent a letter to Phillips management calling for face to face meetings and a six month "cooling down" period. Workers promised to focus on direct dialogue rather than starting off strong public protests, calls for a boycott or other measures to ramp up the campaign. How did Phillips respond to this offer? First ignored the letter and responded with silence. But as the summer progressed and when workers kept talking with each other and holding constructive meetings to make plans for how to secure improvements, Phillips ramped up the pressure big time. They called a mandatory all-employee meeting and and told workers that if they kept getting organized that management would respond by shutting down the entire restaurant. Rather than meet face to face to resolve worker concerns and improve working conditions, Phillips made threats and ignored all requests for a reasonable dialogue. We kept our end of the bargain, even after Phillips made this and other moves to frighten workers from uniting and demanding better. But the six months ended in October, and with that we're going to ramp up the campaign with a major announcement scheduled for Wednesday, November 4 at noon. Join Inner Harbor workers as they stage an exciting play to announce a major ramp up in the fight for the right to work with dignity, the right to healthcare, and the right to education. With the six month dialogue ended, low-wage workers came together for a four day retreat to strategize and discuss next steps. Workers developed the idea for the announcement as a way to begin preparing for Our Harbor Day 2010, a community-wide participation play. Now, workers are prepared to reveal to the public how we will be moving forward to secure economic human rights f
"Vadge Moore is an American author and musician that has spent a lifetime testing the boundaries of good and evil. He toured and recorded with the infamous sleaze-punk institution The Dwarves, apocalyptic rock group Neither-Neither World, and his own nihilist-noise unit Chthonic Force. He has written for the early nineties occult journal Primal Chaos, the esoteric magazine Dagobert's Revenge, and the controversial web 'zine Synthesis. Recently Vadge has taken up an aphoristic-prose style of writing that best expresses his iniquitous and sinister insights into the mind of Man. Chthonic: Prose & Theory is just that; prose wedded to theory that scrutinizes the human, all too human, Monster that is Man."
"Chthonic: Prose & Theory" is a collection of perverse and violent prose wedded to his own brand of occult esoterica. Peer into the mind of one of America's greatest living libertines.

From mass police brutality during the RNC, to the everyday brutality against people of color and poor people in the streets and in the jails. Something has to be done to end their reign of terror. • We need a real civilian review authority that holds cops accountable and isn’t just a rubber stamp agency! • End beatings and abuse in jails - and prosecute the brutal jailers! • No more bogus charges against police brutality victims. Prosecute brutal cops! • Drop ALL charges against the RNC arrestees - Dissent is not a crime! • Fire cops who lie in police reports or in court!
We must let the authorities know that we will no longer be silent in the face of police brutality!

Call for Submissions: Anarchist Yarns
Deadline: August 1st Length: 1000 words or less How to Submit: email louisvuittonnight@gmail.com
Description: Anarchism has a bad rap. There are so many myths and negative assumptions about anarchists floating around that to wade through them all would turn anyone into a creature from the black and red lagoon. Which is why we’re devoting a whole issue to our stories from the silly to the poignant, from the hilahrious to the just fucked. We want everyone and their granny anarchy to write in a short little story that presents the real side of anarchists, whatever that may be. Don’t pull your punches though, no one’s selling anything, we want the truth and nothing but the truth. We are particularly interested in getting some good old punk house stories or stories about all the crazy anarchist co-op shit that goes down but we are equally interested in the personal side of things, the tears behind the sunglasses, so to speak. Honestly, it can even be made up if necessary, fuck the truth, in fact a bed-time story or two wouldn’t hurt anyone. We know you have your stories, and you have a full month, so make it work!
ps. We’re still looking for anarchist erotic stories, do anarchists even have sex anymore?
Our summer issue features a special focus on environmental justice; a feature section on the US elections and progressive responses; our continuing coverage of organizing for abolition of the Prison Industrial Complex; plus movement reports, reviews, and much more.
