Tel·e·Promp·Ter noun /'tĕl'ə-prŏmp'tər/ Pronunciation [tel-uh-promp-ter]
1. Trademark. a brand name for an off-camera device that displays a magnified script so that it is visible to the performers or speakers on a television program.
2. Acclaimed local string and percussion quartet.
Forged in the Summer of 2006 in the brick box that served as their rehearsal room, Teleprompter is the amalgamation of the musical tastes of four young men with prodigous and puissant talent. Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, and having launched an EP locally to significant success, the band have been propagating their own refreshing of Indie Rock to the greater Brisbane area and the east coast of Australia thanks to the technological miracle of the Internet.
A charismatic and danceable treat, Teleprompter are a departure from traditional classifications. Merging Indie Rock attributes with an angular Post-Punk playing style, this indie quartet produce an enigmatic, no-holds-barred sound to the acclaim of critics and fans alike.
Citing influences such as The Cure, At the Drive In, Gang of Four, and Bloc Party, Teleprompter have honed their live performance skills and gained further recognition after playing a series of headlining shows at such iconic Brisbane venues as The Zoo and Ric’s Bar.
Rave reviews have seen their local presence snowball like some kind of mythical indie juggernaut, and the lads stand poised to explode upon to the Australian music Scene.
"Teleprompter are fairly new to the Brisbane circuit but have hit off with lightning speed (due to their actually being quite good) and launched their EP at the Zoo tonight....(they) took to the stage to a mysteriously completely new crowd. The 4 piece indie/garage rock band were laid back and all smiles and kicked in to a great ska-beat opening number (very impressive for a style that’s usually butchered). Teleprompter are incredibly charismatic and a danceable treat for any rocker. The incredible energy of the lead guitarist, convulsing and shaking his way around the stage while attacking 1980-era post punk lead riffs, coordinated perfectly with the the dual vocals and precise rhythms. Its hard to put Teleprompter into a box because they don’t really sound the same as another band, but they’re definitely in the ‘great future’ box if this performance is anything to rely on. The set continued on the a song about dinosaurs, which began with a proud off-key rendition of the Jurassic Park theme, entered into Dinosaur-themed choruses, and finished with a stunning rendition of the other Jurassic Park theme. Not sure why the movie had two themes. But I am sure that Teleprompter sound amazing and deserve to be a local rising star. The dancing crowd were as pleased with the set as this reviewer and the EP’s sold out." - Fasterlouder.com.au
Good afternoon friends, We have an EP launch coming up in February, but before that happens, we need to recruit a new member into our band of brothers and sisters. We’re after someone who can play some keys and maybe even sing a bit. If this description fits you or someone you know, get in touch and we’ll see if we’re a match. Many thanks, The Baby Seal Club
Brisbane outfit Toy Balloon will release their debut album Toy Division on
November 8 through Lofly Records, and to celebrate will perform an east coast
launch tour throughout November.
Formed in 2007, Toy Balloon was
originally a fledgling two-piece made up by Nimai Etheridge’s uniquely melodic
wall-of-sound guitar and Greg Cooper’s beautiful sequenced electronic
compositions. The band have since matured into a four piece featuring Chloe
Cooper (Mr Maps) on key boards and Ben Green on drums.
The album was
recorded and mixed at the Lofly Hangar in Brisbane, a DIY performance space that
Toy Balloon has been an integral part of creating. Fostering emerging artists
and left-of-centre music, the Hangar acts as a performance space, recording
studio, and meeting place; and has resulted in a record with a rich, layered
sound reminiscent of New Order, Mogwai, Boards of Canada, and LCD
Soundsystem.
