* Honored by the Vilcek Foundation in November 2008, New York City
* Officially Selected for LOUIS VUITTON Hawaii International Film Festival in October 2008

"SOMEPLACE ELSE" on National Public Radio NPR... Listen to it here
& was premiered at the Gene Siskel Film Center Chicago's premier arthouse theater, Chicago, IL
Excerpts from the NPR talk/review:
"It's great, we call it, "a personal documentary"... a documentary on Vance's career but it's also how the blues music and how things have affected Kai-Duc while he's been living here... It's reflective, it's poetic... those kind of reflections, sort of internal musings are juxtaposing with Vance Kelly who's a real showman and very raunchy... this film has a lot of character and personality..." (A. Cuddy CPR, T. Hugh CAAS)
Other reviews here:
"AFFECTING" "A TENDER PORTRAIT of one of Chicago's hardest-working bluesmen, an impressionistic meditation on place, belonging, and passion." (A. Mast, Flavorpill.com, Documentary/Film Event of The Week)
"ENGAGINGLY INFORMAL" "PERSONAL AND POETIC" (B. Scharres, Gene Siskel Film Center, Director of Programming)
"IT'S FRESH! I LIKED IT A LOT! AN ART DOCUMENTARY." (M. Saeed-Vafa, Documentary & Critical Studies Programs, Columbia College)
"To see Chicago life in motion through the lens of great cinema is BREATHTAKING."
"Life is about change and change is what you make it."
"Someplace Else is PACKED WITH snippets of GREAT SONGS and not all blues." (Clara Freeman, Chicago Independent Bulletin)
"Someplace else is SOMETHING ELSE in Filmmaking!" (The Vilcek Foudation, NYC)
Texturalistically inclined soul loving to watch indie Fs, listen to alternative Ms, catch contemporary dance Ps, wandering in modern art Ms, travelling in unknown Ts, taking random Ps...
Free spirited agent of the mind, I like to be aware of things surrounding the near, the close, the not so distant, the remote and the far away in all matters...

The launch of
the first in history man-made sputnik was held on 4th October 1957.
This day is considered to be the beginning of the mankind space era. The first
man-made sputnik was placed into orbit by a rocket vehicle from Baikonur
spaceport. A radio beacon was installed on a board of sputnik for monitoring
the flight and carrying out an investigation.
Video documentation of a performance piece by my friend Nate Kassel who rode around on his bike slapping high-fives to people who were trying to hail taxi cabs in NYC. Enjoy!
I usually don’t post that kind of videos, but in this special case, I’d really need your help. It just takes some seconds to vote and it’s really easy.
