Everything from classic rock to classical to opera. I just attended the North Carolina Symphony's (with The Opera Club of North Carolina) performance of The Marriage of Figaro on opening night. I would suggest that as a great night out on the town in Raleigh! I also enjoy radio programs and talk radio.
| | Movies |
Any animal related movie of course! Flicka, Homeward Bound, and The Fox and the Hound are some at the top of my list!
| | Television |
Animal Planet! The best is going to the home of a client and while gathering the information for the contract I would be instructed to turn on Animal Planet during the day for the pets in that home. It makes me smile because I do the same for mine at home! | | Books |
Anything involving learning behavior or basic educational information I collect through magazines I subscribe to and/or newletters from wildlife organizations I belong to.

Petsitters Plus "a whole lot more"'s Blurbs |
About me:
My name is April Remson, owner of Petsitters Plus "a whole lot more" and B.A.D. Behavioral Adjustment for Dogs.
I first started my pet sitting business while working at a veterinarian's office in University Place, WA in 1998.
After moving to Norwalk, CT (9/99 - 5/03) I decided to pursue a career as a professional pet sitter and I found it was perfect for my clients and myself. It not only gave me more time with the pets but it was a less stressful situation for them as well.
There are many reasons why I feel this is a great fit for both the pet owner and the pet.
An advantage to hiring a pet sitter is that your home is cared for along with your pet. And as a professional pet sitter, I am insured which allows the owners to rest easy knowing that their belongings and those they hold dear are going to be cared for properly.
Another reason I became a pet sitter was due to the pets coming in to the veterinarian's be boarded. Seeing the impact it had on certain pets coming in made me think about this as a profession. In some instances, regardless of the pets being up to date on their vaccines, their immune system was compromised, due to stress, which leaves them vulnerable to illnesses that could otherwise be avoided.
If, for some reason, one of your pets becomes ill, you have an experienced eye in your home for any situation that may arise. This knowledge has already saved the life of one of my furry clients in the past. I was able to detect the early warning signs of a stroke and I quickly called the veterinarian's office to let them know of my impending arrival as I was on my way to the clinic. After ending that call, I was able to contact the owner and keep him on the line to inform him of any updates with "his girl." With my ability to spot the signs of her stroke, it allowed enough time for the veterinarian to perform the life saving work to ensure her return to her home upon recovering from surgery.
To prevent your pets from reacting to your absence, I strictly adhere to your normal routine as to not create further heartache with you being gone that may lead to behavioral issues. I spend an average of 30 - 60 minutes per visit to ensure that your home is secure and also granting each of your pets their own quality time.
As far as my pet sitting services, I charge one flat rate of $15.00 per visit and service Hope Mills, Fayetteville, Fort Bragg/Pope AFB and surrounding areas. I do not charge extra to administer medications or for "large families." The flat rate also applies to pick ups or drop offs for transports, dog walking (unless booked 5 days/week in which case you will receive a discount), and throughout the holiday season. I truly value every client I have and greatly enjoy the work that I do. I want to make it affordable for everyone to take advantage of my services so I charge accordingly.
If my services would be of interest to you, or you would like further information please feel free to contact me via myspace, by email aprilremson@yahoo.com or phone 910-717-7474.
What I do in my free time.....
In addition to pet sitting, I also do behavorial correction specializing in aggression. I am a wildlife rehabilitator with a State of North Carolina permit, a wildlife transporter, and domestic animal transporter. I do a variety of rescue work and take my not-so-average pets around to educate the community on proper pet ownership.
The pets in my home include 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 Chilean Rose Tarantula, 1 Curved Horn Baboon Tarantula, 1 Indian Ornamental Tree Spider, 2 ferrets, 1 Albino Burmese Python, and 1 Savannah Monitor. I may also have squirrels, rabbits, and/or opossum as part of my wildlife rehabilitation but on occassion will have to capture and care for turtles, snakes, fawn, raptors, and other federally protected wildlife until they have stabilized enough to transport them.
As you can see, I am very involved with animals on all levels. The rate I charge helps me to not only afford the work I do by paying for my insurance, gas, and supplies but it goes right back to the animals within our communities. One of my animals could be your neighbor's new kitten or even the squirrel stealing food out of your bird feeder in the backyard. It's because of my clients that these critters are healthy and happy. Thank You!!
If you ever have any questions regarding animals at all, feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help you or point you in the direction of someone who can. Being married to the military has its advantages which granted me the opportunity to network with great individuals all over this country and into others.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!
If you happen to have any items laying around your garage or in your attic that you do not use such as dog crates, cat carriers, newspapers you haven't recycled yet, and old towels and fleece blankets, please consider donating it. I am in need of tables, either folding tables or the longer 6' and 12' long tables to place my cages on while keeping the larger crates below them for raptors and fawn when not in use or while I'm treating them. I am in need of those items as well as the basics such as paper towels, cleaning supplies, hardware cloth, lumber (treated or otherwise), and many other items. If you feel that you may have some of these items you no longer need, please contact me. As a wildlife rehabilitator, I am not paid although I work for the state. The funds from pet sitting help to cut the cost of my expenses. Cash donations are always welcomed for the medications needed to treat these poor little critters that come in injured or ill too! If you are interested in learning what it takes to become a wildlife rehabilitator, please feel free to contact me. We are always looking for more volunteers! Thank you!

Who I'd like to meet:
I would love to meet and interact with animals of all sorts. I love learning about behavior and enjoy it moreso when it's hands on. I would also like to meet other like minded people who have a love for animals. Who speak for those who can't. Who stand up for their rights after their rights have already been violated and in some cases, their lives have been taken. Those who put injured animals first. Those who understand the unconditional love that an animal gives regardless of it's past. For it is those that truly understand human nature as well.
