Summer music is a genre that brings out the spectacular and the mediocre in artists. For every two and a half minute teenage symphony by the Beach Boys, there's a dozen cheap grabs at capturing the unique feel of the summer months. The problem is that no one has made summer music that reflects what those longest days of the year are actually like. As much as we'd all like to be in the droptop switchin' lanes or comparing the merits of the east coast girls and their hip clothes versus the kissing techniques of the northern girls, it's just not happening for most of us. Jed Foster's Bittersweet Way (its roulette of side musicians stopping on zero for the moment) tries to smash the illusion of beach romps and boardwalk strolls with the ten or so minutes of "Summer Says Hello", with ukulele and synthesizer fueled accounts of girls that lie and boys that can't seem to communicate their emotions. Perfect for mosquito plagued summer camps or pointless July afternoons for frustrated cubicle workers stuck under the fluorescents, this E.P. gives you a private moment to not have to pretend those yearbook promises of a totally awesome summer ever came true. The Bittersweet Way is here, and they, if no one else, understand.

National Handwashing Awareness Week is December 6-12 2009.
Much like Christmas, the Spirit of NHAW should be kept year round.
Thankful Birds (your favorite indie/jazz/blues/can't-make-up-their-minds band) are making sweet music this Friday at Hollywood Alley. It's a great bill with Haymarket Squares, Green Lady Killers and the Sugar Thieves.
