The Blots began taking shape from the smoldering ruins of Charlotte band Frocky
Jack (1997-2002). The two former Frocky
Jack singer/guitarists, Eric
Cavanaugh and Eric
Cook spent the last few years with a variety of projects, Cavanaugh set up a home basement studio and twiddled knobs while Cook recorded and performed with a side project called thank
you, spaceman.
The Blots solidified earlier this year and, as with Frocky Jack earlier, sometimes they can be challenging listening. Alt rock surges shift abruptly into poppy hum-a-longs and back out again without warning.
