reviews of HER BENIGN TOUCHES
"
When I can't decide what to listen to in my vast music collection, having the new album from the Common Men makes things easy for me! Why? Because they sound like nothing else that I own. Part of my job as a dj,is to filter out all junk that comes my way. The Common Men are a unique band, with a sound that I can't quite figure out...and that is a good thing indeed!" - Tombstone, from Crawlspace Radio/TakilmaFM.com
"Overall this is a Album that you will want to share and listen to over and over again." - DJ Kam, disc jokey The Unstable Malfunction Show
"The Common Men, out of Davis, play danceable, dark, edgy post-punk. The band is powered by a propulsive rhythm section which locks in while jittering guitar lines scamper around on top. Catchy melodies pop up and skitter around amidst the darkness. The real magic is in their creation of head-boppin' upbeat tunes that also feel very moody -- making for music that is simultaneously poppy, driving, moving, sad, and a bit disturbed." - Craig, writer Sacramento Punk Shows
reviews of JUST JEST
"This band has a ton of potential, and this first CD seems like it's just the tip of the iceberg of what's inside these not so common men." - Supergina, KSSU AM radio
“The Common Men sound fresh and invigorating while summoning the best in a bygone era of rock that was saturated with the greatness of classic goth and new wave acts.” - A&R Select
"This Is music for the thinking man ... the soulful , sensual woman ... and anyone who respects the resurection and juxtaposition of what we call post punk and REAL alternative music." - Shadow, Chemical Angel
"The entire CD has an edginess and moody darkness, with detached, deadpan, desperate vocals that add to the sense of tension and dread." - James Nicholas Mohr, writer and musician
"'JUST JEST' is a lively album from The Common Men, which keeps the toes tapping and the ears open throughout." - Sande Waybill, Helium.com
"The Common Men, a post punk/indie band out of Dixon, California, bring a unique sound to the ranks of independent artists. Their latest CD “Just Jest” is a collection of songs that are catchy, head bopping tunes like “Lust As A Scientist” and “My Glass Eye”." - www.doogz.net, score: **** (out of 5)

WHAT HAS COME HAS GONE, AND WHAT HAS GONE WILL SOON COME TO PASS IN SOME OTHER TIME ZONE THAT LAGS BEHIND.
IRREGARDLESS, IT IS WITH HIGH REGARD I ANNOUNCE THAT KIMI COMMON HAS JOINED OUR RANKS. AS THE RANKING MAN OF THE RANK AND FILE, I FILE HER NAME UNDER DRUMMER. AND SHE DRUMS. LIKE YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE.
SHE IS ONE OF US NOW, THAT ELITE GROUP WHERE ONLY THREE MEMBERS ARE KEPT AT ONE TIME. ENCOURAGE HER, FOR WE WILL. EMBRACE HER, FOR WE WILL. WE WISH A HAPPY FUTURE WITH HER, AND YOU. SO, TO THE FUTURE, AND THE FUTURE OF PAST WHICH HAS YET TO PASS, CHEERS.

The BIOGRAPHY.
The Common Men
The Common Men, a power trio hailing from Northern California, is an eccentric mix of punk rawness, dance earnestness, gothic darkness and cathartic release. A nod to the early years of the post-punk era of the late seventies and early eighties, The Common Men also infuse elements of art-rock, drama, and melodic thoughtfulness to their compositions. Such elements combine to create a unique sound and live experience.
"Our compositions focus on human drama," says Kevin Ian Common, "I am interested in the dark side of humanity. People do the strangest things to each other in the name of love, lust and hate. These dynamics interest me greatly." Such taboo subject matters carry an intriguing sense of gloom in spite of the hooked-filled compositions. "I focus on protagonists in impossible situations. Their extreme experiences still manage to find a way to speak to the average listener in a very real way."
Their lives shows have now approached "infamous" status. With such antics as stopping mid-song to do a meditative percussion break--complete with cowbell--to ending songs with knocked over instruments and the occasional busted open fingers and foreheads, The Common Men performance is a purge of the human soul. "I feel strongly when I play. Sometimes I forget where I am," admits Kevin, "The music we play is best translated when we give it our all. Our performances are raw, energetic and heartfelt. If it becomes chaotic, it is only because the emotions we surrender ourselves to are too much to handle. Watching that happen is what we are about--giving in to emotion for the purpose of cleansing our own souls."
The Common Men are currently testing out new material for their upcoming release tentatively-entitled "Ideals" with many more shows coming in 2009.
