Sounds Like
Like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountain mornings...Just some hairy-ass hilbillies, still up and...hangin' on.
I'd like to tell you a story about a group of folks go by the name The Culhanes. Now, The Culhanes....Not exactly a name any one would self-apply where I come from, but I guess it suits 'em. The Culhanes been playing together going on three years now. They've played all around the Denver area and they've shared the stage with country music acts like The Texas Sapphires, Jessie Dayton, Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles, Shurman, and Tim McGraw. I ain't to sure that last one is true. That's what they told me, but I suspect they wasn't being one-hundered percent truthfull.
After a chance encounter on the internet, Jenny Lynn Culhane and the brothers Pat and Devin O'Toole started playing some music together, and someone got the damn fool idea to form a group. Soon, they added Matt Cardenes on the drums, Sean Sweeney on the bass and Gary Baker on the steel guitar. That's how it happened. Not the most interesting story in the world, I'll grant you that, but it's true.
They play country music, pure and simple. All kinds of country music really, then they kinda mix it all together. Sometimes you can hear high lonesome bluegrass, the hard stuff outta California, some of that West Texas weirdness, and a little bit of that more rock 'n' roll kinda thing. If that aint' your cup of tea, well, they're sorry, but that's what they do. And they ain't gonna go changing, that's for damn sure.
Guess they just finished up a CD a few months back. Worked with a guy named John Macy. Real nice fella. Even won a Grammy once. The CD's gonna be called "No Part of Nothin'", and you can probably get in summer sometime. Hopefully sooner, rather than later.
Well, I been bending y'all's ears long enough here. Suffice to say, The Culhanes is alright. They're a kinda a peculiar bunch; they ain't overly friendly and they sure as hell ain't the prettiest group of folks, but they can pick out a tune. Guess that's all you can ask for.
