Every band paints a picture. The picture is made of puzzle pieces. The Cupids are based in Copenhagen by chance or more by persuasion, yes there is often a woman behind every story. The first time you hear Lior Bazak sing you think immediately of The Smiths and A Ha. It's a great comparison, Lior is the real deal a powerful singer. So powerful that he can’t help but to have his own unique style. The Cupids have hits too!
The Cupids are Lior Bazak (vocals), Jacob Aaby (guitar) Tony Palmer (keys) Anders Sejr Davidsen (drums) David Lind (bass). Together they kick out the sweet melancholy laced songs of love and desperation. They are all solid musicians, combined they have a unified sound and a brilliant stage presence.
The band started out in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2004 and instantly found a sound uniquely their own. Happy pop at first, but a closer listen reveals a much darker side not unlike some of the big British acts from the 80's
I didn't take long for the Copenhagen public to catch on and The Cupids soon played a number of shows in Denmark, culminating with a sold out show at Copenhagen’s premium venue "Rust" in January 2005 Since then, the band has been busy writing songs, playing shows - including a short trip to London’s Water Rats club. A recent well-received gig at Loppen in December was a warm up for what's to come in 2006.
The story of The Cupids is one of unlikely people meeting and unlikely things happening. Hailing from different countries and backgrounds the members each bring a characteristic and easy recognizable touch to the music. The strong and deep felt voice of Lior Bazak, combined with Jacobs indie-rock schooled guitar mixed with more light sounds of strings and electronics, makes for a very distinct outfit.
The songs are instantly memorable and extremely well written. Adding to this a smashing live show sure to make any crowd jump, dance, sing & scream makes The Cupids an act not to be missed.
The band has all the pieces and they know it. Now it's time to enter the song lab to tweak the material to create the modern sound picture of 2006.A record deal is in place and plans to deliver a stunning debut album from this International Danish Act have been sealed.
