Frank - Lead Vocals and Guitar
"Demagogue are a band who should surely be signed...their blend of death, thrash and prog metal is viciously uncompromising." - Demo of the Month, Metal Hammer Magazine (UK)
"...startlingly adept and arresting effort by a band who stand so far ahead of the workaday demo metal herd it's not even funny...they manage to infuse fresh ideas and engaging slight of hand to their prog-death row whilst maintaining a fobidding heavioisty." - Terrorizer Magazine
The seeds of Demagogue were planted in late 2002 when vocalist/guitarist, Frank Allain, in an effort to satisfy his 80's Thrash desires, began a solo project under the moniker Deviant. The project quickly expanded to include drummer Simon Dickens and, following preliminary writing and rehearsals sessions, Deviant became a 3-piece, after the inclusion of Bass Player Mark Harrington. The final piece in the puzzle came in the form of second guitarist, Martin Bell, who had previously been a member of the band Embers, alongside Simon and Mark.
With Frank taking on vocal duties, the band developed new and exciting material, utilising the speed, energy and intensity of 80's Thrash masters such as Exodus, Coroner, Overkill and Testament, while infusing it with haunting melodic and harmonic elements, not disimilar from more contemporary extreme bands such as Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Anathema. A strong influence from more funk-orientated bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faith No More and Infectious Grooves, on Deviant's rhythm section was embraced to evolve the band's music further and add the trademark groove that is now fundamental to the Demagogue sound.
After the recording of a 3 track demo, 'Broken Father' in early 2003, the band debuted live at the Metro club in Central London, to rapturous response. Since then, the band has gained a notable reputation for their energetic and exciting live performance.
A decision to change the band's name to the more distinctive Demagogue was made towards the end of 2003, at the same time as recording of their debut 4-track EP, Nihil Obstat came to completion. Produced and mixed by Ed Shackleton, the EP received almost unanimously positive reviews from the music media and the general consensus was one of eager anticipation towards Demagogue's next move.
Following a lengthy writing period, during which the band honed and developed their sound, work began on the band's first full-length album, 'Ruin', in late 2005. Completed in early 2006, the entirely self-produced 9-track, 50-minute recording showcases perfectly the entire spectrum of the Demagogue soundscape. Melding furious thrash, monolithic riffs, groove-laden breakdowns and delicate atmospherics, 'Ruin' represents a true musical journey. 2007 promises even more activity from the band - in addition to gigging to support the material on 'Ruin', the band will begin work on an ambitious 3-part concept EP which will expand on themes addressed on the previous album and develop them even further.
