Thee Phantom wrote his first rhyme at the age of 8 and made his first beat by mixing the instrumental from the Beastie Boys Paul Revere with Beethoven's Fifth Symphony at age 12. Ironic that the particular movement of the 5th Symphony he used is entitled, "Destiny", because little did he know, that combination of B-Boy Meets Beethoven would later open up a world of opportunities. Thee Phantom mixes the raw energy of Hip-Hop with the beautiful, sweeping, soundscapes of Classical Music by recording and performing with his own Illharmonic Orchestra. Most notably, in 2002 he became the first Hip-Hop artist to perform at Philadelphia's prestigious Kimmel Center with musical accompaniment from members of the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Among that group was Violist Renard Edwards, who 30 years earlier became the first African American musician to play for the Philadelphia Orchestra, when he was selected in 1970. The standing room only show was such a hit that Phantom was invited back in 2003 to perform at the Kimmel Center's annual Summer Solstice Celebration. This time performing in the much bigger Perelman Theater with a string section, concert pianist and a sitar player, Phantom again packed the house to capacity. In 2006, Phantom performed inside the Kimmel's 2,500 seat Verizon Hall, with the Phoenix, a string section, a horn section, DJ Kingspin, a trio of breakdancers and fellow MC's Reef the Lost Cauze, Side Effect and Verbal Tec.
In 2003-2004, Phantom's independently released single entitled "Storming the Bastille" received airplay on over 300 college and independent radio stations in the U.S., topping the charts at WGBB and WSIA in New York among others. Storming has also reached the airwaves in Germany, Japan, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Croatia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Australia, Ireland, Africa and France.
Phantom completed and released his debut album entitled, Hero Complex, in 2006. The album contains instruments such as: lute, flute, guitar, sitar, piano, organ, harp, as well as string, woodwind, choral and brass arrangements. "Hero Complex", plays out like an audio comic book, with scored scenes that connect one song to the next. There are features with Reef the Lost Cauze, the Phoenix, Side Effect, Verbal Tec & Verso, production by LF Daze (Cassidy-The Message, Junior Mafia-Riot Muzik) & instrumentation by Chuck Treece (Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, Scott Storch) and the Illharmonic Orchestra.
You can order, "Hero Complex", and have it delivered to your doorstep for just $5.99 + S&H.
