Ros Sereysothea was Cambodia's most beloved rock singer until Pol Pot's nightmarish regime took over the country in 1975. Her voice, once used to entertain, became her only chance of survival.
What started out as a little short film quickly exploded into an award-winning international phenomenon, reviving the memory and music of Cambodia's legendary Queen of Khmer Rock, Ms. Ros Sereysothea.
A vibrant rock n' roll scene flourished in Cambodia during the 1960s. Ros Sereysothea, the greatest female singer of the period, was dubbed "the golden voice of the royal capital" by Prince Sihanouk. As her career soared to an unprecendented level of success, the Vietnam War tore its way into Cambodia. In April 1975, Phnom Penh fell to the bloodthirsty Khmer Rouge regime. Artists, intellectuals and other undesirables were targeted for execution. Ros Sereysothea was forced to conceal her identity or face one of the most brutal genocides of the 20th century.
