THE OLD BAR

THE OLD BAR - Keeping the filth in Fitzroy for over eleven years.
The Old Bar is a beacon of dirt in the sparkly clean ether of the Melbourne bar and music scene. Striving to showcase a vast plethora of diverse bands and performances. What started as a blues and roots bar has developed into a venue dedicated to keeping the Melbourne music scene alive and kicking.

Alongside The Old Bar’s regular residencies, tribute nights, national and international touring gigs, we regularly flaunt the talent of our local bands. With a décor that matches the name, there’s no bullshit with the Old Bar: two bars, fireplace, beer garden, record store, knick-knacks, bric a brac and car parts.

With a 1am music license and a 3am bar license, the Old Bar’s versatile band room has a capacity of 180 people, encompassing the whole downstairs venue, which can be reduced into a smaller, more intimate setting for all you acoustic musos out there. Getting gigs at the bar is easy just drop in for a beer and hand a demo into the nice folks behind the bar or post a demo to P.O. BOX 1515 Collingwood 3066, call on the band bonkings line on 9419 9008 and ask for Joel, visit them at www.theoldbar.com.au or send Joel a message at bandbookings[at]theoldbar[dot]com[dot]au. DO NOT MESSAGE THE MYSPACE ACCOUNT.

Conserve water, drink beer: The Old Bar.

Saloons throughout history, from Ricardo’s Babalu Club to Signor Ferrari’s Blue Parrot bar, have been the weigh stations of existence. For between life’s troubles is required a yeast based putty filler to keep us from coming apart – and the bar has always been the supplier from whence the mortar flew. We, us all, have spent nights of revelry and remorse at these monuments. The great drinkers of history have laid claim to the majesty as they laid waste to their respective libations. To whirr the mind, think of the verses scrawled on the backs of coasters and the scores smudged between stains on bar napkins. In all truth, I believe that it is paramount that you, the drinker, as you read this gibberish, grasp that you are taking part in one of the greatest and all-embracing movements of history. When you are bones, others will be drinking from that glass, sitting in that chair and perpetuating the very activity you yourself are perpetuating as others have before you. Whether you’re pausing to order me a shot, or simply overseeing Guy Gardener escort Batman from “The Warrior” for gently urinating on the bar, you will be equivocally filled with a sense of awe, greatness and foreboding for your hand in this round.
