The Rawmarsh Mashers is what happens when two guys in their mid fifties get together to make music. Too old for MTV, and too young for a reformation tour, they got together in bars and back bedrooms to recreate the music from their youth.
Richard (he’s the one with the hat and no hair), claims to do the lead vocals and laughingly, rhythm guitar. He put his guitar down at the very early age of twenty five to take on what his Dad called adult responsibilities.
Twenty five years later, duster in hand he cleaned away the years of dust and rust that made a sad site of his guitar, so as to help his son learn to play the instrument.
But five years later, neither of his sons now pick up their guitars, instead, Richard has over, the long years (according to those who have suffered at the Rotherham Rugby Club, The Black Bull, The Rig Dyke, The Monkwood and his Wife) homed his performing skills to produce a sound that only he is capable of.
It has become known as the sound of The Mashers. Loud, lively and enthusiastic.
And on lead guitar, the Master of the duo, Myke (he’s the one with the hair).
Myke has played with so many pro and semi pro bands that not even a Myspace page is big enough to contain all the names. His music has ranged from progressive rock to folk.
Myke adds the colour to a Mashers performance, clever with the strings and nifty on his toes when moved to dance.
He’s a clever boy. Not only is he currently working as a Masher but also accompanies several local open mic artists. He is also a writer, and news of his folk based musical getting an airing in 2008 should be watched for.
The third member of The Mashers is of course Murial the music stand. A really essential part of a Mashers performance. Please See Blog.
AND PROOF POSITIVE that the Mashers do practice their deliberate mistakes hard.
You can find them at the Monkwood most Monday nights if you want to come and join in on a practice night. Join in the arguments, comment on the new songs, or just sing.
Wally Whyton - The Spinners - The Fivepenny Piece - The Houghton Weavers - Jon Isherwood - Shep Wooley - Fred Wedlock - Bearnard Wrigley, Tom Paxton, Noel Murphy, Matt McGinn, Watt Nichol, Jake Thackray, Peter Paul and Mary, Richard Digance, The Kingston Trio, The Yetties, The Dubliners, Tommy Maken and The Clancy Brothers, Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison, Lonnie Donigan,The Corries, Pete Seeger, Christy Moore, Ewan MacColl, Joe Brown, The Oldham Tinkers, Eric Bogle, The Leesiders, Cyril Tawney, The Weavers, The Strawbs and Bonzo Dog Band etc, etc, etc even Rambling Sid!!!
Yes, the mix of styles truely reflects what can be expected from a Mashers Gig.
As one punter was heard to say at a Rawmarsh Mashers Gig, “well that sounded like nothing I’ve heard before”. We’re not quite certain if he was talking about the songs or the usual enthusiastic Masher delivery.
The Mashers have a sound of their own, now recognised on the Rotherham scene as being distinctive.
If you’ve listened to the tracks, having taken the recommended precautions, you will know the truth of this.

Come on in my friend and welcome to the World of The Rawmarsh Mashers.
The Rawmarsh Mashers have been together for two years, “too long”, some say, but we won’t let that put us off.
Everything that you would ever want to know about The Rawmarsh Mashers can be found on their Web Site GO HERE where you might even discover the colour of the under pants Myke Masher is wearing to day.
THE VERY LATEST THOUGHTS FROM THE SEAT OF THE MASHERS
MASHING AROUND THE WORLD – WELL SOUTH YORKSHIRE ANYWAY!
We get asked a lot how people can avoid accidently coming across a Mashers live appearance and besides checking our Gig list above, the best way to avoid us is to sign up for our regular News letter / Blog which you can do by simply entering your Email address in the box below. So there really is no excuse for being accidently Mashered.
Alternatively you could go to The Mashers News page HERE
MASHERS AT REVERBNATION

WHERE WE PLAY AND BOOKING
The Rawmarsh Mashers really love getting out and about. We’ve played Festivals, Folk Clubs, Rock Venues, Pubs – in fact anywhere where by accident or design they have been booked – and there have been a few accidents.
BOOKING THE MASHERS is relatively easy. They will play anywhere from The Royal Albert Hall to the Local Brothel, and it generally only takes two seconds for them to decide upon acceptance. There is a Booking page on their Web Site HERE
There’s also a review of a live Mashers type evening.
FREE DOWNLOAD DEMO DISC

WE’RE A TINY BIT POLITICAL
The Mashers are just a little bit opinionated. Their weekly News Blog, published through their Myspace page has become popular for it’s direct approach towards the Folk Music scene and Political irreverence.
The Mashers stand firmly on the side of “the folks” who make their home town tick, which is why the song “Ordinary Man” has become a stable of their current sets, a song that vents frustration at Bankers and Managers a like for the rubbish treatment they have been dishing up to us ordinary folks who simply want to make a living and live life in within a basic level of security.
One of the great joys of Myspace though is that brought The Rawmarsh Mashers into contact with so many new friends, many of whom have given us the opportunity to travel up and down the Country to play at various events. In fact The Mashers now have a World Wide following – Australia in particular, which is where of course many local Club Promoters would love us to go.
Another knock on effect has been that The Mashers have been invited to play live on various Radio Stations – and even been asked back. By going HERE you can down load for FREE The Mashers Radio performances.

DELIBERATE MISTAKE – THE MASHERS DEBUT AND AMAZING CD
We do have a CD, “DELIBERATE MISTAKE” – yes – and we have sold it out. But have no fears, it is still available for DOWN LOAD. Nineteen fantastic tracks made up of all the errors that typify a Mashers performance. In fact you will 250 Deliberate Mistakes on the CD, all very carefully crafted and scripted. If on listening you can spot the Mistakes and they tally with the list that Myke has hidden behind his clock on the mantelpiece then you could win a prize.
Send your list on a Post Card to Myke Masher, Co. Great Recordings Inc., Rotherham S60 and next time you see him he’ll buy you a pint.
To BUY the DOWN LOAD CD for only £3.99 you need to go HERE.
And Pssst if you really want a coffee coaster version of the disc that can be arranged as well from The Mashers CD page. You’ll also find a couple of reviews on the page.
We have to send you to the Web page because Myspace has for some reason identified our profile page as being one where direct links to Paypal will not be allowed.
ACOUSTIC ROTHERHAM

FRIENDS
Yes, we do have one or two………………………………… I’m not sure that everyone in these pictures would agree though.
Check out all our friends on all our various sites - by clicking on the links at the bottom of this section.
You can also check out what people have been saying about The Mashers as we’ve travelled around, as our friends always have loads of advice for us besides where they would like us to put our guitars by going HERE
All this in two years!! And yet despite all this fame The Mashers can still walk the streets of their home town completely unmolested, which suites their shy and reserved personalities to a tee.

I just love that pic you have posted on your profile page! I can't help but smile when I see it! To me it looks as you two are playing "Knock-down Ginger" as Mrs T calls it - as I would put it "Those bl**dy brats are ringing the doorbell again!" It looks as if Myke has just done the deed and Dickie is about to high-tail the scene of mischief! It is a great photo... nice one lads, nice one! Straight out of "Last of the Summer Wine"....A worthy album cover is that!
