The Shalitas; Kazual, Ahneeta, and Lowlita are three bad ass bitches with a love for the rock and the roll. The trio initially formed to belt out backing vocals for famed Philadelphia band, Marah. The girls can be heard groovin' on Marah’s fourth album, “20.000 Streets Under The Sky” as well as their 2005 holiday album, “Christmas Kind of Town” on which the Shalitas also contributed their first original song.
The Shalitas unique vocal stylings of infectious harmonies, playground rhymes, chants, and handclaps quickly won them accolades and gigs. With folks clamoring for more the sexy soul sistas put a band together and made their debut performance at North Six in Brooklyn in 2006.
The Shalitas have been rocking crowds ever since with their mellifluous blend of playground soul and rock n’ roll. The band has most recently been spotted shakin' their groove thangs in and around New York in such clubs as Irving Plaza, Southpaw, The Mercury Lounge, The Bowery Ballroom playing opening slots for such artists as Jill Cunniff of Luscious Jackson and the ever-rockin’ Detroit Cobras.
The Shalitas write emotional lyrics that are seductive, soulful, and fierce. A lover’s kiss one moment, a cat scratch the next. The perfect companion to melodies that are simultaneously edgy, fluid and symphonic.
In short, The Shalitas are the answer to the question: “Where has all the good music gone?”
They're right here, Baby. Come and get 'em.
The Shalitas first original release, “Born A Shalita” dropped in September 2007 on PHIdelty Records, distributed by Red Eye Distribution.
The Shalitas song, "Must Be True" was selected to be on the New York Mets 2008 series commercial on the WB11. The commercial, along with The Shalitas, has been nominated for an Emmy Award. We are beyond excited!!!
