THE SHANES, founded in Trier in 1991, play hard polka. This is a unique mixture of rock, polka, country and elements of folk from different parts of the world, with a pinch of punk and ska, hardrock and lots of fun while performing. The band is welcome at any kind of live event because they don't only serve a niche but offers rousing entertainment for all interests and all ages without losing its very own individual style.
After that, the band tours England and France. In 1998, THE SHANES are invited to join the SXSW- Festival in Austin, Texas and the Oktoberfest in Houston, being accompanied by a TV- team of SAT1, one of the biggest nation-wide commercial TV stations in Germany. The outcome is a feature about the band in the daily programme.
The band refines its stage presence in terms of outfit, show and stage decoration and headlines shows at festivals and clubs in front of up to 6,000 people. The increasing popularity is given evidence by augmented requests for appearances of fans, radio stations and record shops in the US, Argentina, Spain, Siberia (!!) and recently even Japan among others.
To the US- based, worldwide largest music website allmusic.com, THE SHANES are 'Europes foremost ambassadors of Gypsy/Hungarian/German/Folk/Polka/Punkrock' (Dave Sleger). All albums are recommended by 4 of 5 possible stars in the reviews. A fact even more well-known bands hardly manage to achieve.
In 10/2004, the CD Pölka is recorded. The release starts with a big party and live performance in February 2005.
On this album, the band combines its hard polka with an hardrock/metal attitude.
End of 2005/beginning 2006 the Shanes get an engagement in an weird musical adaption of Shockheaded Peter at the Theater Trier, where they perform as musicians and actors.
In 2006 they are invited to play at the Festival of East European Film in Cottbus. This show is recorded for their asskicking Live album 'Polka Over Serbja', which comes to the stores in 2007. It captures the sparking energy of the furios live shows of the Lucky Six from Trier.
2008: The band is again in the studio, working for their new (and best) CD 'Squandering Youth' (released spring 2009). Although it shows an extreme wide range of influences and styles, it is the most homogenic work of the guys. Country, Balkan, Americana, Punk, Rock and -of course- Polka together in a wild, irresistible and unique mixture, it guarantees smart and cool entertainment
from the first chord to the last note. Check it out.

Was für ein Jammer, welche Verschwendung. Aber Ihr könnt ja immer noch ab Herbst 2010 den Termin fürs große Comeback festmachen. Die Welt will, die Welt braucht die Shanes.
Hallo The Shanes, vielen lieben Dank fürs Beipacken. Hat mich sehr gefreut. Eure Songs gefallen mir wirklich gut. Am besten finde ich "Haunted House of Polka", " Unfortunate One", Going Where The Action", "Long Journey" und "King Of The Fairies". Liebe Grüße von der Nordsee, Karsta
