Formed in the winter of 2003 in New Paltz, NY, The Trapps are an adventurous, American roots-rock band led by Sean Schenker (songwriter, lead vocals, guitar), Warren Gold (lead guitar, slide guitar), Jason Sarubbi (backing vocals, bass), and Seth Moutal (drums and percussion).
The Trapps are a unit centered around focused songwriting armed with an upright bass, a hybrid percussion/drum set, acoustic rhythm guitar and electric lead/slide guitar. The unique blend of instrumentation allows the band to explore the boundaries of song, sound and improvisation - always benefiting the presentation of "the song" itself.
The Trapps debut release titled "Good Luck or Goodbye?" has already started to gain serious industry attention. Standout singles "I'm Through", "Alright Now" and "Blood on our Hands" have all received heavy radio play on several AAA stations along the East Coast.
"I'm Through" won First Prize in the Relix Magazine June Jam-Off contest where the band was a featured artist to watch in the magazine's June '07 issue & compilation CD along side Wilco and Martin Sexton.
"Alright Now" landed on The 2006 Woodstock Film Festival Compilation CD.
"Alright Now" also won FIRST PRIZE for best song in the AAA/Alternative category in the 2006 International Acoustic Music Awards Song Contest.
"Blood on our Hands" was selected as a featured downloadable track on Neil Young's website Living With War.
The Trapps have appeared at Mountain Jam, Camp Bisco, The Cape May Singer-Songwriter Music Conference, and the CMJ Music Conference. In addition they have shared the stage with acts such as Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd, The North Mississippi Allstars, The Benevento Russo Duo, and Jack’s Mannequin. The Trapps currently perform 150 dates per year and are working on their next full-length CD.
