Maya & Nandy

Bio:

Born in Sydney, Australia, but growing up in a remote area up north Maya & Nandy soon developed a strong passion for music. They started learning choreography off of music videos and performing it in their own bedrooms but knew that they would eventually have to make a true commitment in order to fulfill their dreams. Following their passion they moved to Sydney and started to train at performing arts schools studying singing, acting and dancing.

What came after was an amazing ride: They have left their marks in movies such as Moulin Rouge and Son of the Mask, caused a media frenzie after one of them dropped out of Australian Idol after having made it into the top 30 in order to pursue their dream as a duo act, landed roles in the musical version of Disney’s The Lion King, various tv shows, commercials, music videos, fashion shows and live performances.

But their relocation to the US made their careers explode. After living in LA for only 6 weeks they scored a singing gig alongside one of the greatest performers and musical geniuses of all time – Prince! They have not only sung, but also choreographed and danced for Prince’s shows such as the record breaking 21 nights run at the 18,000 seat O2 arena in London for his Earth Tour, the highly celebrated 2007 Super Bowl halftime show and a 6 month 3121 run at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. Furthermore they joined him on stage for tv shows such as American Idol, Saturday Night Live, the BET Awards, Brit Awards and multiple live performances such as Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe after parties and were featured in his music video Fury, the Verizon Wireless commercial Guitar and Prince’s best selling coffee-table book 21 Nights.

Even though the twins embraced being guided and mentored by Prince for over 2 ½ years, they eventually decided to step out on their own and have since performed with artists such as Rihanna and Chris Brown, became recognized as fashion trendsetters, are the official faces for the new DimePiece Designs collection and landed a role in Matthew McConaughey’s movie Surfer, Dude.

What's happening now you ask? Plenty! The girls are currently in the studio wrapping up their first album, touring with Letoya Luckett and Tynisha Kelly in the US and Japan and when time allows it, playing their own gigs here in LA.
