T La Rock was born in Manhattan and raised in The Bronx. T La Rock has been an MC and a DJ since the birth of HIP HOP, T La Rock has been a major influence on many rappers such as Special K of The Treacherous Three (T La Rock's Younger Brother), LL Cool J, Saul Williams and Percee P to name a few. T also helped launch the career's of Greg Nice & Scott La Rock to name a few. After birth of Hip Hop. After being a solo DJ and Emcee, T La Rock formed a group, Then named the group, The Undefeated Four, This is very early Hip Hop. There were not to many rap groups out at that time. Rappers were called Emcees.
The Undefeated Four were
The Incredible DJ Emcee T La Rock,
The Amazing DJ Emcee Bombay,
DJ Cooley Breeze &
DJ B O Zonk.
T was the first Hip Hop artist to work proffesinally with Rick Rubin as well as Quincy "QD 3" Jones. T's proffesional debut was in 1984 when he released the Hip Hop classic "It's Yours" which was produced by Rick Rubin and featured the scratching of DJ Jazzy Jay. T La Rock then released the EP "He's Incredible" featuring the hit "Break Down", He then went on to work with super producer Kurtis Mantronik on several songs including "Back To Burn". T La Rock later released his debut album titled "Lyrical King" which was produced by T La Rock and his DJ Louie Lou. With the success of the Lyrical King album, T La Rock toured the United Staes as well as London, Germany, Japan and is credited as being one of if not the first rapper to perform in Sweeden. T La Rock is working on a movie based on his life story. At present time, The movie script is being updated and casting will soon begin. In addition to the movie, There will also be new T La Rock songs. In 1984, The song "It's Yours" was released, "It's Yours" was the first song ever produced by Rick Rubin and his fledgling Def Jam production company. The song was the first single to feature a Def Jam Recordings logo, but it was later released through producer Arthur Baker's independent label Party Time, which was the hip hop division of his dance music label Streetwise Records.
In a 1996 interview with The New York Times, Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons commented about the effect T La Rock and "It's Yours" had on the early hip hop scene:
“It ["It's Yours"] was big, big in the underground. T [La Rock] started the trend and a new direction in hip-hop. He used 40-letter words. He created a special poetry. LL Cool J was the second release on the label. He borrowed ideas and attitude from T, LL would agree."
For those unfamiliar with the recording, the "It's Yours" 12" (Cat.
PT-104) was the very first Def Jam record. Now before hands come
flying up in protest and you're tempted to state that LL Cool J's "I
Need a Beat" 12" was the first, let us set you straight. The "It's
Yours" recording was something Rick Rubin put out on the Streetwise
Records subsidiary label Party Time Records, a few months before
joining forces with Russell Simmons.
As the hip hop mythology goes, Rick Rubin had arranged to put out a record by rapper Special K and Jazzy Jay, of the Treacherous 3 and Afrika Bambaataa’s Zulu Nation, respectively. When the arrangement with Special K fell through, Special K’s brother T La Rock filled in and the rest is history.
"Rick Rubin then went into the studio to make a record with Jazzy Jay and T La Rock, who is Special K from the Treacherous Three’s brother. That was called “It’s Yours.” And actually if you listen to the background track you can hear Adam (Horovitz) and myself (Mike D) and I think also Adam Yauch and Dave Swift and some other friends of ours saying ho and getting our claps on. Anyway so that record came out actually through…I think it was through Arthur Baker’s label …this label called Partytime. I think Arthur Baker had something to do with it. That record came out and Russell (Simmons) heard it. I think for him… it was shocking for someone he didn’t know had made it or someone that wasn’t from his world." - Quotes taken from Mike D in a 1998 BBC Radio special..
