Old blues grows new roots….meet Tom Richardson, hailing from Victorias south west coast. His infectious personality and onstage presence combined with furious, bluesy slide guitar, powerful deep voice and foot stomping rhythms, result in a new brand of blues and roots.
Winner of the 2008 ‘Maton’ Young Performer of the Year at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, 2007 Apollo Bay Music Festival Young Performer of the Year, and the 2004 and 2005 Australian Busking Championships, Tom has performed festivals such as the Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Australian Blues Music Festival, Queenscliff Music Festivals, Blues on Broadbeach, Yackandandah Folk Festivals, Portland bay Festival and Apollo Bay Music Festival. After performing at the 2008 Blues on Broadbeach festival, Tom sold the 2nd highest number of CDs at the festival amongst artists such as Mia Dyson, Bondi Cigars and The Black Sorrows.
Tom has also shared the stage with artists such as Carus and the True Believers, The Audrey’s, Bomba, Dallas Frasca and her Gentlemen, Rob Sawyer Band and Marshall and the Fro.
Originally from Warrnambool, Tom picked up the guitar at age 10, but it wasn’t until he turned 16 he began to teach himself bottleneck and lapsteel slide techniques. Tom recently signed to Australia’s premier blues label, Black Market Music, immediately releasing an album and has just returned home from a 9 week tour spaning 5 states as part of the ‘Young Guns of Blues’ showcase.
Releasing his debut ep 'Follow Me' in December 2006, Tom has received numerous airplay and interviews on Triple J’s ‘Roots n All’ program, and has since been discovered by the National Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Apollo Bay Music Festival as "a young performer going places" - Marcia Howard.
