The Tornadoes Featuring Jacqueline Krain bring classic electric blues, swing, jump and contemporary rockin' blues through guitar, harmonica, bass and drums plus the searing vocals of Jacqueline Krain.
Their repertoire includes songs by such artists as Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Otis Rush, Freddie King, Louis Jordan, B.B. King, Little Charlie & the Nightcats, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, coupled with tunes by Bonnie Raitt, Kelley Hunt, and Susan Tedeschi.
Band members have been playing together since 1997, although their musical experience goes back much farther. They bring experiences from playing the blues on the West Coast, in the Midwest, and all around. Gifted vocalist Jacqueline Krain joined the guys in 2005, bringing a new sound and driving energy.
The Tornadoes regularly perform in clubs throughout the Iowa City/Coralville area (Tuscan Moon, Martinis, The Siren,The Sanctuary, The Mill, Gus'), Cedar Rapids (Checker's Tavern, The Chrome Horse), the Amanas (Zuber's) and occasionally stray farther away to exotic places like Des Moines and the Quad Cities.
Their outdoor appearances include the Friday Night Concert Series in Iowa City, the 2004 Iowa City Jazz Festival, the Des Moines Arts Fest, and Music in the Park in Coralville. They also play at a number of private functions, and have competed three times in the Iowa Blues Challenge. In 2002, they opened for Lonnie Brooks in the Quad Cities, and for Larry McCray at 3rd St. Live in Cedar Rapids.
