“Formed by Mike Adams and Josh White in May of 2008, the duo started out writing folk songs and soon sought out drummer Ben Straus. As many bands with synergy will say, “something just clicked,” and here they are today with a modest but respectable catalog of about 14 songs. Their craftsmanship means not one song ever sounds like the one previous one and sees all members switching instruments throughout their set.
Toy Sails may have started out a folk idea, but alludes to the sounds of many bands—even if they don’t realize it. Seeing them live last month, I heard everything from Vampire Weekend to Brand New to Paul Simon in a youthful blend that, though rough, was still well crafted enough to move my ears. The potential that exudes from this group—they’ve recently added another guitarist, Thayne Coleman—is what excited me most.
Don’t let the trendy awkwardly-boyish look and choppy MySpace demos dissuade you from giving these young artists a chance. Their campy-to-thoughtful presence as songwriters proves they are willing to take risks already, rather than worry about what will win over a crowd or bunch of skinny girls with bad haircuts. The ability to harness creativity, all while allowing their songs to take on a natural state, is something few musicians are lucky to have so soon, especially while some are still in high school.
Toy Sails’ youth lights the way to a hopeful future. They release an EP next month and hit the road early this fall.”
WARNING, THE FOLLOWING IS A MASS COMMENT; DON'T BE FOOLED. YOU'RE NOT SPECIAL!
As anyone who has not been living under a rock for the last few months knows, I am getting married very soon. That is of very little consequence to you, so do not worry yourself about it. What you should worry about, however, is traditionally shortly before men get married, they have a bachelor party. It is some kind of cathartic ritual, generally ending up with a hangover and blue balls. As I rarely drink, and have no interest in having breasts rubbed against my face, I opted to play music with some of my friends and eat pizza instead. I am writing this highly personalized message to YOU specifically as an invitation to come hang out with me on this night of my bachelor party. I am including a picture with all of the information necessary. Although I will question your intelligence if you have any inquiries, but if you must, direct them to my myspace inbox in the form of a sonnet with a minimum of 250 words. Otherwise, I will expect to see you there. A place will be set especially for you; don't let me down.
we have a new song up, it's a rough mix of the song, but worth the listen. the song title is "smoke, girls, and caffiene". also read the blog for a little history of the song. let us know what you think.
Don't really know at the moment. With most of us getting educated this fall it's going to be hard to coordinate schedules, but we're definitely planning on doing a few things soon.
