“The finale of "Tiny Fragments" is one of those live musical moments where in the aftermath, you realise that you've forgotten to breathe through the entire thing. It is a rare group that can evoke moments of heartbreaking poignancy, overwhelming grandeur, and jaw-dropping virtuosity, but Tangled Thoughts Of Leaving do, and in 9/16 at that.” – OzProg.com, 2008
"It’s jazz, no two ways about it, but it’s jazz fit for a nervous breakdown – either as the cause or the symptom. Think of it, then, as an entirely fluid, keys-based equivalent of someone like Dillinger Escape Plan – as played by chaps who hit the books, rather than the ‘roids." - Mike Wafer, Xpress magazine, 2008
“With this EP, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving has announced itself as a major player” - Richard Allen, The Silent Ballet, 2009
"...without a doubt one of the most original and forward thinking bands around today. It’s an aural
experience to behold, and up there with one of ‘09s most intriguing musical moments." - Sputnik Music, 2009
"The bold contrast between droning distorted guitars and lounge room jazz passages throughout the EP is something, in hindsight, I never thought I would hear. It is also something that I never thought could work. However, it does, and it does magnificently." - MetalObsession.net, 2008
"Tiny Fragments is a fascinating and bold release, full of unexpected twists and turns. Highly recommended for those who want their listening experience challenged." - perthbands.com, 2008
"In today’s post-modern society, it’s impossible to say that anything is truly unique, however this is perhaps the closest thing you’re going to find this year" - Death Before Dishonor Magazine, 2008
"Although the epic, three-part title track takes up 18 of this EP’s 28 minutes and the equally epic ‘The Banshee’ constitutes the other 10, Tiny Fragments should not be misconstrued not an exercise in bloated prog excess; the band’s intricate arrangements, attention to detail and impeccable musicianship has ensured that there’s not a single wasted note on this disc." - Adam D. Mills, Mess+Noise, 2008
"Their set was so intense, and the lighting effectively dim, that it all felt spine-tinglingly apocalyptic... all in all they could have played for another hour easily and still held the crowd’s attention." - Perri Bastian, Xpress Magazine, 2008
"..they've added a whole new dimension to their music and clawed themselves nearer the top
of the 'most underrated bands in the country' category."
- OzProg.com, 2009

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving emerged from the shadows of the live scene in Perth, Western Australia
with the release of their 2008 EP, Tiny Fragments. By way of a piano-led amalgamation of prog,
metal, post-rock, jazz, and noise, TToL have - as cliche as the term is - created their own sound: intensely heavy, intricate, relentless and epic. While Tiny Fragments attracted attention from reviewers across Australia and online, it’s as an intense and fiercely engaging live act that TToL have built their reputation.
Tiny Fragments was designed to be a challenging listen - unapologetically progressive and relentless in it’s constant changes in direction, never allowing the listener to settle in a comfort zone. The 3-part, 18-minute title track is the centerpiece of both the EP and the Tangled Thoughts live show - painstakingly
constructed from a multitude of small concepts and ideas.
In 2009, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving released a Split CD with Sydney’s sleepmakeswaves. The release exposed TToL to sleepmakeswaves’ east coast Australian fan base, as well as a huge global online audience. While Tiny Fragments focused on intensity, TToL’s two tracks on the split showcased a greater understanding of song writing and subtlety. A Vexing Predicament won 2009 West Australian Music Association Experimental Song of the Year, and The World is a Deaf Machine was acclaimed as one of the best tracks of the year by international post-rock website The Silent Ballet.
While drawing on the influence of film scorers Philip Glass, Clint Mansell, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis at their most delicate and precise moments, it is when TToL harness the inspiration of Isis, Dillinger Escape Plan and Cult of Luna that they are at their most crushing. Traditional song structures are thrown out the
window as the songs wind their way to an epic and cathartic conclusion.
Tangled Thoughts of Leaving are currently recording for their debut album, destined for a 2010 release.

Far out, A Vexing Predicament sounds excellent. Can't wait for your new album! Sorry we haven't been able to catch up in so long, I haven't seen anyone in ages! Hope things are well with everyone and good luck with the recording!
My new 3 album box set ODESSA delves into the disgusting involvement the United States government had in hiding Nazi war criminals that were deemed, "intelligence assets", to be used against the Russians. ODESSA also examines the enthusiastic role the Franciscan Order, Argentinian and Chilean Governments, and Arab leaders who hated the Jews played in hiding and finding new homes for former fascists. It seems many nations had a reason to keep these monsters from being captured, and this is my attempt to expose the establishment of a Fourth Reich in South America that still exists to this day.
