It was a little over three years ago at Sussex University in Brighton that the Two Spot Gobi alternative organic pop sound was born – when
singer songwriter James Robinson teamed up with cellist Rob Lewis,
guitarist Dino Randawa and drummer Ben Matthews. After a couple of line up changes they recruited jazz graduate Matt Ellis on trumpet and most recently Matt Harris on bass.
Influences include everything from The Police to Pendulum and Elbow to Jamiroquai. Having released four EPs, (Melodious Star, Hey Now, Outside and Otherside Of The World) they unleashed their debut single Sunshine Lady in June last year.
As a result TSG were invited to the US to perform a series of intimate east coast shows, after which they linked up with platinum selling and Grammy nominated artist Jason Mraz (Through a remarkable set of coincidences he had discovered TSG at a show in the UK in early 2006) for some arena dates in California. Since then they’ve performed at the first Leeza Gibbons Oscars Aftershow party in LA, have played a couple of European dates with Jason Mraz and, after supporting him on the British leg of his tour, they embarked on a string of their own headline shows across the UK. Two Spot Gobi have since been holed up in the studio writing what will be their second studio album before once again returning to California for recording and live shows over the summer months.
