Sounds Like
"...like Black Sabbath armed with sticks, marching to the battle of Ümera." -- from a review by Mart Juur, "Postimees".
"(Taak's) sound has Black Sabbath written all over it. /.../Taak has really captivated the retro sound." -- from a review by Marko, "Overhook Music".
""Koerapööriöö" is easily the best doom album of last year. Doom heads: bask in the glory of the best band you’ve never heard of." -- from a review by Greg Majewski, "Crave Magazine"
By 1994, the only original member left in Estonia's first doom metal band, Mystique (est. 1989), was the drummer Aivar 'Aiku' Leimann. Unwilling to quit, he gathered around him new members. The band proceeded to take on a new name and alter its style. Dawn Of Gehenna managed to put out one MC release worth of cold, bleak death-doom metal and wear a few stage-boards thinner, before lack of perspective got the better of the band and brought on a long hiatus.
In 2003, a reason presented itself to fire the beast up again. The slightly changed line-up opened for some well-known foreign acts (Reverend Bizarre, Nightwish), released a promo called 'The Night Dog Sessions', and opted to use only Estnoan lyrics which called for a new name. Since 2006, D.O.G., when performing in their mother tongue, have appeared under the name 'Taak'. This name, meaning 'heavy burden', speaks of the band's roots in the dark, depressive, and riff-based music that has since Black Sabbath printed its heavy stamp on all modern heavy rock.
Taak's debut full-length album entitled 'Koerapööriöö' was released by Nailboard Records in April, 2006 and has received loads of positive critique and feedback from all over the place since, culminating in January 2007 in being voted "Album of the Year" by listeners of the nationwide radio-show "Metallion" and readers of the biggest Estonian rock journal "Nailboard Magazine".
