Hollywood originally stranded near Elliot's Creek on Virginia's eastern shore on December 30th. Before responders could arrive, Hollywood crawled back into the bay. S/he restranded in front of Bay Creek Golf Course (formerly Hollywood Farm) in Cape Charles the next day and was found and reported by staff from the golf course. Because she is a cold blooded reptile, she cannot regulate her temperature and was 48 degrees when she stranded. We are cautiously optimistic that she will make a full recovery.
If you ever find a stranded sea turtle, alive or dead, please call the Stranding Center at 757-437-6159.

關於我:
My name is Fred and I am a loggerhead sea turtle. I've been rehabilitated and released by the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Program but I plan to keep in touch and tell you about all the other turtles who follow in my flippersteps. I am one of five species of sea turtle that have been seen in Virginia and one out of seven species found throughout the world. On October 10, 2006, I was found floating by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxilliary in Gloucester, VA. I was brought in to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science at Gloucester Point and then transported to the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Center. I had an injury to my head, possibly caused by a boat strike. That's why they sometimes call me Crack Head Fred. I was released on June 27, 2007 with a satellite transmitter. I traveled over 8600 miles before the batteries wore out on my transmitter. Unfortunately, many turtles like me are injured by human related activities such as boats, commercial fishing, recreational fishing and trash that is floating in the ocean. In the next several years, I should be able to grow up to 300-400lbs and can be found munching mostly on blue crabs, horseshoe crabs, and whatever else I can get my beak on. Just make sure to properly dispose of all your litter so it won't become part of my meals! Oh and make sure to call the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Program if you hook or find other sea turtles like me or my friends on the beaches of Virginia. 757-437-6159
