Velha Gaiteira nasceu no Paúl com o intuito de divulgar a gaita de fole transmontana e as percussões tradicionais da Beira Baixa. É um projecto de raiz tradicional cujo repertório serve como homenagem a todas as velhas gaiteiras que mantêm viva a musica enquanto veiculo de comunicação e expressão cultural e identitária. Os seus temas originais partem deste universo rural e pastoril para um novo caminho desbravado todos os dias ao som da gaita, da caixa, do bombo, dos adufes, criando um novo estilo já denominado por Trance Rural Orgânico...

Velha Gaiteira is a Portuguese traditional music project which has on Beira Baixa (mountains area of the centre of Portugal) their main influence. It can be said that this project was born from the will of promoting the Portuguese Bagpipe and the traditional percussion of Beira Baixa. Velha Gaiteira is a project with great traditional roots; the band pretend to transform their themes in true tributes to an ancient character of the Portuguese Folk, the Velha Gaiteira, which, according to folk stories, was all the women who loved parties and everything that could gather the People, as, for example, music. It is a Beira Baixa traditional character and nobody knows, exactly where or when it was born. Today, one only knows that someone that was called Velha Gaiteira, was a happy person, that learned, with the people that worked in the fields, how to get through life always seeing the bright side of things, singing and having fun with all the good and bad things that happen, so that it could be remembered.

Velha Gaiteira est né au Paúl dans le but de divulguer la cornemuse « transmontana » (c’est-à-dire de la région de Trás-Os-Montes au Portugal) ainsi que les percussions traditionnelles de la région portugaise de Beira Baixa. Il s'agit d'un projet traditionnel avec un répertoire qui sert comme un hommage à tous les anciens qui jouent la cornemuse et qui gardent, ainsi, vivante la musique comme un véhicule de communication et d'expression culturelle et d'identité. Ses thèmes inédits quittent ce monde rural et pastoral et suivent, chaque jour, un nouveau chemin inconnue au son de la cornemuse, du boîtier acoustique, du gros tambour, des adufes (espèce de tambour carré portugais) », et qui vont créer un nouveau style qui s’appelle déjà le Trance Rural Orgânico (Trance Rural Organique)
