About Versus The Ocean [Show Nov.21st in Frankenmuth!]
The story of Versus The Ocean begins in late 2005 when high school friends Mike Hale and John Whiteside set out to make a band that sounded like nothing else out there. After a couple months of searching, the original lineup was formed and the band officially started under the name A World Away. They quickly began playing shows all over the state and in 2006 they headed to Chicago to record what would become their first EP, "Dinosaurs on a Cruise Ship".
Just when things seemed to be looking up, the band experienced several shake ups that eventually left them as a five piece with a few new members. Later, looking to expand their sound, the search began for a new singer to complete the line up. Jeremy Whittaker auditioned and was quickly added.
Shortly after the addition of Jeremy, the band decided a name change was necessary to distance themselves from other bands also using the name "A World Away". They soon changed their name to Versus The Ocean and announced they were signing with Ben Harper's California-based label Takeover Digital. Versus The Ocean's debut full length entitled "If Only You Knew..." is slated for a September 2008 release.
Jeremy had this to say about the new album...
"We wanted to create a sound that blurred the line between a bunch of different genres. We want people to listen to the lyrics, feel the music, and interpret everything in their own way. I really hope people can relate to the message we are trying to send." Their debut full length "If Only You Knew..." definitely sends a strong message about battling through personal experiences and relationships, and growing stronger from them.
John also added...
"We really want people to talk to us. That's something we feel sets us apart. Our fans are our number 1 priority, Period."
Stay tuned folks, this band is going to around for a long, long time...
