Sounds Like One of my all time favourite musicians is British keyboard player/singer Tony Ashton. He is seen here with Ashton Gardner & Dyke playing Rolling Home in 1969. They were one of the most exciting and innovative bands of the late 60’s. Later Ashton played in Family, worked with various members of Deep Purple, and of course was part of Paice Ashton Lord along with Jon Lord and Ian Paice from Deep Purple. He died of cancer in 2001. Read more about him at my Ashton site at http://www.waliditayim.com/ashton.html

Pinky and the Brain was always one of my favourite cartoons so to discover this great episode where they meet the Beatles was a total thrill! The scene starts in India where the Feebles (Beatles) are with the Mouse-a-rishi (Pinky). The Yoko Ono character (here called Yoyo Nono) just cracked me up!!! You have to see this if you haven’t yet! Youtube is one of the greatest things on the internet!

I was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. Ever since I heard the Beatles at age 6 I dreamt of becoming a rock star. Of course that never happened :-) My main instrument is guitar. I started playing at age 13. After learning how to play the basic chords, I started writing song after song. Many of those were not that good but some were pretty good. I didn't get a chance to play in any bands during my teens due to the fact that in those days in Lebanon I couldn't find kids my age who I could form bands with. During my college days and after I got to play in some bands. Of these, the band FORCE (1983-85) was the one which I loved being in the best (see live videos from a 1984 concert above). We recorded an album that would have been the perfect demo but unfortunately no one who matters ever got to hear it. The album was called Forced. Ziad Rahbani joined us for the recording of the album and played piano and keyboards. In the years since then, I continued to write songs and play gigs in local clubs but never managed to make a living from playing music. Ocassionally I got to record on other people's albums such as Ziad Rahbani's CD Monodose with Salma on which I played guitar on 2 tracks.

The Songs on the player above:

On "Thank God Its Over" I did the vocals and the guitars. Munir Khauli played bass guitar and keyboards and helped me with the drum programming.

On "Running Out of Time", I sang all the voices and played the guitars. Sami Shabshab played the bass guitar. Munir Khauli played the organ and helped me with the drum programming.

On "Strangest Little Creature" I did the vocals and played all the guitars except the guitar solo at the end of the song which was played by Munir Khauli who also played bass guitar, keyboards and helped with the drum programming.

On "Moving On" I sang all the voices, played the guitars and the bass guitar. Munir Khauli played keyboards and helped with the drum programming.

"What She Does" is a remake of a song I had on myspace last year. This complete remake is certainly a way better version than the old one. I sang all the voices, played the guitars as well as the bass guitar. Munir Khauli played keyboards and contributed to the string and brass arrangements. He also helped me with the drum programming.

Taken at rehearsal with Ziad Rahbani's band March 2007

Walid,

Thank you for your support! It means a lot to me and I truly mean it.

Good luck with your album. I'm sure it is going to be brilliant and I'd love to review it once it's out. Those big projects are sure hard work, but at least you have most of it done already. Can't wait to see what the album cover is going to look like.

All the best and speak soon.

Alissa.

Hey Walid,

GREAT new songs, and your new top hit is Thank God it's Over - which I am sure is hitting the Lebanese pop charts like an avalanche? If it isn't then something is wrong and we need an explanation ...

salam!

Hi, nice to hear from you too. :) Oh you finished recording already? That's great. I don't know much about mixing and mastering, but they're important to the finished product. Good luck selling your cd. I've seen bands use cd baby before so I think it's a good place. There's something called snowcap I think that you can put on your page (if you don't have it already) and people can buy individual songs. Lots of luck.
