I'm influenced- don't laugh- by everything around me. The older I get, the progressively Hippier I become; so from that merit alone, I must be incredibly "HIP" at the moment. Being 'cute' is also very hip right now, so honestly I'll tell you some things I love and dislike so that you can know me more. I love life. OK? I do. All it's ups and downs excite me. I even wrote a bloody song about it! I love little things like a great stretch, the smell of people in a crowd, getting dirty or wet when I'm having fun, running as fast as I possibly can down a slopey field. Watching someone execute any kind of craft with blind assurity makes me hot. The Big things, like reaping what you sew. The cosmos. How the fuck I knew that person was going to call me. I believe in knowing what you're talking about but more importantly; asking questions. Recently I have taken to bringing the guitar with me to the toilet again. I collect watches but have no care for time (time is but a concept)
Aside from being an über super cool tree hugger (which I actually recommend you try!) I like to push my limits musically and personally. I don't waste my time with hate, but I can get overly passionate about something and scare people. I dislike (greatly) people who make sweeping judgements because of how you look or speak or what you're into. I enjoy a solid debate. I love gigs. I enjoy other people's music. I write all the time. I make music all the time. I love what I do. I do what I can. I work hard, so do my crew. And you're here reading this, so we're doing alright!
Some bands I listen to are: Laura Veirs, Yes, Tori Amos, Bjork, Aidan, Gemma Hayes, Damien Rice, Ani Di Franco, Paul Simon, The Grand Mirage, Screaming Headless Torsos, Elbow, Radiohead, Fiach, Jinx Lennon, Aidan, Tom Waits, The Animal Collective, Caoimhin O' Raghalaigh, Tool, Cinematic Orchestra, Aphex Twin, Katell Keineg, Feist, Anthony And The Johnsons, The Bad Plus, Torun Eriksen, Supergrass, Nina Simone, Emiliani Torrini, Sufjan Stevens, Billie Holiday, Get Well Soon, Steve Reich, Shawn Colvin, Paula Cole, Hank Williams, wow, I cant tell you it all, I have the worst memory. I will listen to anything if it's done with heart..............oooooooh music is my duvet!
Sounds Like
Compare me to your hearts content! I live on this earth and therefore cannot avoid being turned on by sound, so what I write is a culmination of every sound and word I've ever heard and things I don't even know yet. I am me......try me.
Wallis plays Lakewood Guitars. Thank you very much for your support!
26 year old Irish artist Wallis Bird is back with her second album "New Boots", the follow-up to 2007's 'Spoons' which rocketed into the Top 10 UK Digital Album Charts, and earned her comparisons to Ani diFranco and Janis Joplin. Having toured over the last two years with artsits as diverse as the legendary Billy Bragg, who hand-picked her to support him on his UK tour, and Ivor Novello award winner Gabrielle, as well as playing over 80 headlining shows in Europe during 2008, Wallis rounded off the year by clinching one of the biggest TV campaigns of 2008 when her storming cover of 'Just Can't Get Enough' was used on a prime-time nationwide advertisement.
An impassioned performer, "New Boots" captures much of the live energy of her shows. A 5ft2 bundle of white heat, Wallis throws herself around the stage with willful abandon, breaking strings, shredding her fingers from the sheer force of her playing, urging the crowd into a collective sing-a-long and throwing her entire soul into each performance with often breath-taking results. Having impressed everyone with the intensity and passion of her live shows, Wallis has nurtured a gig-going following whose admiration borders on the devotional.
Wallis’ live shows and album release have garnered her rave reviews from all quarters, with 4 * reviews being given by national publications including The Guardian, Daily Express and The Sun, who called her ‘a stunning female singer-songwriter to take note of…..a future star’.
Wallis returns with the vivid, multi-coloured and hugely entertaining "New Boots" and she's kicking down your door with it.
