Widescreen are a 3 piece electronic/flamenco world
beat act. Originated by the 70's Prog/Classical Guitarist David Clark
Allen of Carmen fame last year. Two years ago he asked Larry Lush to co-produce
his new album with him as his original work from the 70's was being re-released
on Angel Air Records.
It was decided the new work should go under a new banner
and Widescreen was conceived. When the Album was in the can David asked Larry
if he'd like to go on the road with him and here they are.
With the band now is Charlotte Medcalf, an actor-musician who has worked extensively in the UK, appearing in award winning productions such as Sam Mendes' CABARET , Complicite's STREET OF CROCODILES and David Glass's GORMENGHAST. Her passionate approach to her instrument is
electrifying.
Our Music is a fascinating mix of Classical Spanish
Flamenco, Electronic, Mediterranean and eastern European. At times it can
seem quite purist but then it magically shifts into the outer-worldly
yet always flowing, always remaining exciting and uplifting.
In 2007 we were asked by the Latin Musical Festival,
La Linea, to support the Buena Vista Social Club at the Hammersmith Apollo,
the only UK act ever to have done so. A month later we were on the
bill in one of the most prestigious venues in London, the main auditorium
at the Barbican!
During the summer of 2007 we enjoyed playing at many festivals
including The Secret Garden Party, Big Chill and Bestival.
At the end of 2007 we found ourselves in
a supporting role again - for Ojos De Brujo, back in London at the Camden Roundhouse.
Not bad for an act in her first year we think!
Now, in 2009, after another great year gigging and recording, the first album - En Mi Vida - is available from our website www.widescreenmusic.net. We can't help it . . . we're going to be immodest . . . it kicks ass!!!
