WONDERboom are one of South Africa’s longest-lived rock bands and also one of the most successful.
During their decade as a band they have released 7 albums, headlined every major SA festival, been nominated for 4 SAMA’s (South African Music Awards), won a Kanna Award and People Crystal Award in 2003 for South Africa’s hottest band. They also won the South African leg of the 2004 Global Battle of the Bands and come second worldwide, all while maintaining the level of music that audiences love.
They released their seventh album ‘City of Gold’ at the end of November before seeing out a successful 2006 on The Go Summer Tour.
The album ‘City of Gold’ consists of all new material and is much awaited by their many fans. It was produced by South African music great Lucien Windridge the frontman of one time SA supergroup Evoid. The first single off ‘City of Gold’ ‘Take me Home’ has been playlisted on most major national radio stations. ‘City of Gold’ takes listeners on a journey through 12 strong songs that include stadium rockers right through to introspective ballades and onto pop rock tunes. It is a culmination of years of live performances and song writing experience, brought together by Wonderboom’s dedication to delivering their absolute best in an ever-changing music market place.
2007 is set to be an exciting year for the band. The official ‘City of Gold’ album launch which was held at the Black Orchid, 28 February, proved once again that WONDERboom is indeed on of South Africa's greats. The guys have already shot two music videos, Best Side and Brain, and they will be playing on your favorate music channels shortly...
Seldom does a band deliver such passion, commitment and quality melodic music mixed with a compelling sense of originality.
