The sex, the drugs, the rock-n-roll was all there and in quite abundance I recall. Every night is Halloween for us at "Interval Music". (our home) Parties, parties, and more parties! That's what goes along with the Rock-n-Roll we play. Anybody who asks us where we went to college, we just say "Rock party 101"! And learned to party we did indeed.
The funnest ones have to be the annual Wow & Flutter X-mas Parties. 1000 people show up at the door and the only price of admission is that everyone has to bring one X-mas tree ornament. The ornaments got pretty interesting over the years, like girls would always bring panties and bras or guys would bring ornaments made out of condoms, beer cans or weed just to name a few. It's always a rockin' shin dig at Interval.
Crazy shit always goes down at a Wow & Flutter rock show. Fuckin' loud! Big lights ,big smoke, blowin' fire, head bangin', naked chicks, mosh pits, balloons and confetti for days! Fans always leave satisfied but still wanting more. Then after the show, everyone comes back to Interval and just destroys the house. We always round up the nights beer cans in the morning at take the survivors out for breakfast at The Bomber or The Hotcake House.
Our road crew is something special, every show they kick ass at thier jobs and always have a nice treat for us on the last song of the night. I remember getting pelted with jelly beans, doll heads, gains burgers dog food, toilet paper, condoms, raw meat and eggs just to name a few. One night at sold out show at the Hult Center for the performing arts I'll never forget the last song of that night. It was Bon Scott's birthday and we decided to pay tribute to Bon by playing "Let there be rock" for our last song. Well mid way through the tune we noticed the stench of rotten fish filled the venue and the whole band gagged! I thought I was goona puke! I looked around to see what it was and noticed it was rotten smelt that had been baking in the sun for two days! There was fish everywhere, on stage, in our hair, in our amps, on the drums, in the first five rows of seats! The Hult Center was so pissed cause it took them six months to get the fish smell out of the seats which later had to be re-apolstered. Ultimately Wow & Flutter was permanently banned from playing there for life! That's fuckin' Rock-n-Roll!
After playing all around the northwest, and becoming Porland's best band even though we were from Milwaukie, Wow & Flutter scored a publishing deal with Virgin Music through the hands of Ron Stone and Ex- Motley Crue producer Tom Wermen who personally came to Milwaukie to check out the band. Wow & Flutter soon travelled south to Hollywood to be closer to the action and strike up a scene. We played all the cool spots including the Whiskey-a-go go, The Trubadour, The Coconut Teaser and were the house band at the FM Station. We became one of the top fifty band's in LA according to Spin Magazine which still blows my mind because there are thousands of bands in LA.
I'd have to say one of the funnest times was playing Sam Kinison's Halloween Party! It was a who's who of rock stars that attended. We were all pretty devastated when we heard the news of his untimely death, espeacially me because I had won his contest to get married on his final HBO Comedy Special. My fiance' and I did a mock wedding on stage with him as 'The Reverend" and later that night took his private jet to actually elope to Las Vegas where he was my best man in a real ceremony at a wedding chapel where Jon Bon Jovi had gotten married just one week before. Kinison Rules! We partied till dawn and he kept the booze and drugs flowing all night at the VIP room at the Shark's Club. A fond memory of that night was when the bathroom on the jet was broken so we all had to piss like hell from the over flowing campange and as soon as we landed the girls B-lined it to the terminal while I just whipped it out and started to pee when I heard Sam say " I think I'll join the groom". Then him and Chris Squire from Yes (who was also with us) and me were pissing out on the tarmack in Las Vegas! "Take me now lord", is what I said to myself as I looked to the heavens pissing with Sam & Chris.
The music is what we love and no one can ever take that away from us. We love writing tunes because there are no rules. That's probably why we formed the band in the first place because in Rock-n-Roll, it's all about saying, " Fuck the rules!" That's one thing Wow & Flutter stood for and that was sticking to the man. We also loved sticking it to every girl that would get caught in our web. Yes, we're manwhores, sluts if you will. We love women so much that's another reason for forming the band. We would go out of our way to impress chicks like shoving as much beer down thier throats as humanly possible just to get them to strip for us. But they usually did this for us anyway because we made all thier inhabitions go away by just being who we are.
