I spend lots of time reading---about history, biographies, memoirs and of course everything I can find about the royals! I love fiction, too-----and there's nothing better than to be in a book store...
One of my passions is writing...not just fiction, but anything! I love writing letters and journaling. If there's a new pad around, I'll find a use for it!
Fireplaces are so cozy, and I love the crackle of the fire and the warm glow...
Unfortunately I don't have one yet, but I will. In the meantime this will do...

Did you know that Queen Victoria was conceived to be a Queen? She became the Queen of England at only 18 years old.
Life was so different back in the 1830's England. The pace was slower and of course there was always time to have tea and take the air in the garden...
The young lady above is Alexandra, Princess of Wales, from Denmark. She married Queen Victoria's son, Bertie. She had very bad hearing--and sometimes she seemed aloof because of that. She had 5 children and she smothered them in love. When her grandchildren came, there was even more spoiling and lots more love. She became Queen of England in 1901 when Queen Victoria died and her husband assumed the throne.
Above is Sissi, Princess Elisabeth of Austria...later Empress. Did you know she was the Diana of her day? She had quite a toilette every day---her hair was dressed and she spent hours on her appearance, with the help of her ladies. Her dark hair was very, very long. Because of her nerves, she took a lot of exercise---sometimes too much. She continually watched her weight. Beautiful...isn't she?
The little lady sitting above is Alexandra, Tsarina of Russia, with her husband Nicholas. She adored her husband---absolutely adored him. Alexandra was a grand daughter of Queen Victoria, a favourite one I might add. Her family called her Sunny or Alicky, and so did her husband Nicky. See her pensive face? After she arrived in Russia, her father in law passed away. She became Tsarina and Empress and was not treated well by her mother in law, Minnie, or by many of the court's ladies in waiting. They spied on her and were very critical. Minnie had quite a hold over her son. Did you know that Minnie's sister was The Princess of Wales in England---the one who smothered her children.... in love?
If you have an interest in royalty like I do, I'd have to recommend a wonderful website called THE ALEXANDER TIME MACHINE. It's awesome, and has forums on ALL the royals. Another interesting one is THE ROYALIST. It's filled with news on the royals of today and yesterday. She married King George III on September 8, 1761 in the Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace in London. And then she had fifteen children...yes, you heard me...15! Thirteen of the children survived to adulthood. This is the Queen who took an interest in Mozart, and became his patron. She and the King had a happy marriage and filled their time with many domestic pursuits. The King bought her "Buck House" which is now known as Buckingham Palace. When it was purchased in the 1700's, it wasn't nearly as large as it is now. Much has been added to it! Charlotte was close with her daughters, and survived her husband's madness. You have to give a woman like her credit. She held it together. She did have one confidante in which she poured out her heart in letters...her brother. He was her one and only true confidante.

An Empress and the mother of a Queen... This is Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, mother of the famous Marie Antoinette. Rather an elegant way to get around...in a gold coach. A coach like this would be used for ceremonial events only... pulled by the finest and most beautifully groomed horses.
For centuries the Royals have taken refuge and gained strength in the havens of the palace and homes they loved best. Many had lush lands and gardens to walk through, in private, and could sit by streams and ponds and contemplate...There is something soothing about running water...
Taking shelter as the rain comes, in the garden...
And after a stroll, the Royals could look forward to some refreshments laid out for them...

TWO QUEENS, TWO SISTERS... They look like twins...This is Queen Alexandra "Alix" and her sister, the Dowager Tsarina of Russia. All their lives Alexandra and "Minnie" as she was known in her family, were very close. Their father was Prince Christian of Denmark and they lived a relatively normal and happy young life in and around Copenhagen as minor royals. They grew up at Bernstorff Palace and the sisters shared a drafty bedroom as well as their dreams. In 1863, Alix married Prince Edward Albert, eldest son of Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria's daughter Vicky, secretly sent her parents very detailed descriptions of the Danish Princess before the Prince met her. Younger sister Minnie stayed behind after her sister married, but in 1864, the future Tsar of Russia, Nicholas, proposed to her. Tragically he died of tuberculosis the next year. Minnie was devastated--truly devastated over this. She remained close with Nicholas's parents, and in 1865, Nicholas's brother Alexander came to visit her in Copenhagen. As they looked over photographs, he proposed. Minnie accepted and married the future Tsar Alexander III the next year. Both sisters had six children. In an ironic twist of fate, each sister was forced to bear the death of their eldest son. Incase you aren't sure which one is which..(yes, it is hard to tell!) Minnie is on the left.
