A special message from your Wide Track Warrior friends...-----Pontiac Eulogy:----
Welcome, fellow warriors we're here today to bid farewell to GM's Pontiac. As many of you have already learned our beloved brand is no more… GM officially announced the death of the storied 83-year-old Pontiac brand Monday April 27, 2009. There’s been many greats through the years and several motorist that will forever be linked to a fascinating legacy such as Don Garlits, Richard Petty and Tony Stewart. Then there was the Monkees and their GTO, The Rockford files and a lonely detective’s Firebird. How can we not think of Pontiac without remembering K.I.T.T. or least of all Burt Reynolds running blocker for a load of illegal Coors in his Black SE Trans Am… Yes, Pontiac maybe gone, but it made a bold statement like no other while it was here…
The last Pontiac’s will roll off the assembly line and into automotive history, at the close of 2010 . Pontiac will take up it's mantle among the many greats that have traveled that road to the hall of fame garage. Hudson, Duesenberg, Studebaker, and Oldsmobile to name a few. Rest assured it will be well received with open doors and polished chrome. All great things must come to an end they say? While we had no desire to see it leave the show room floors so soon. We all knew in our fuel injected hearts it would have a special place of honor with those other American Greats someday...
I’ll spare you the history lesson of Pontiac, as so many of us, know it all too well. I’ll instead focus on what Pontiac really meant to many of us. Pontiac was much more than a car it was a family member, as close as a loved pet. We spent countless hours washing and waxing it. We cared for it by religiously changing the oil and inflating the tires to that perfect pressure. We was picky who we would let touch it and even more so who we would let take it for a spin… Yes, it was far much more than a mode of transportation it was a symbol of class, pride and in your face power. In a word it was an “enchanted” automobile… We all have stories how we came to know Pontiac and why we purchased one. But one thread weaves all those tales together into a beautiful tapestry “We love our Pontiac’s”. Some will find that strange but not to us… As I once overheard a Pontiac owner say “if I have to explain it you wouldn’t understand.”
Now, that the brand has departed even our rivals shed tears of sadness and give a rumbling salute. Pontiac may not have always crossed the finish line first, but was always given a great amount of respect. Today this respect has been replaced with a robe of sainthood unmatched by few other automobiles. While many Pontiac’s will live on among us for decades to come. We will see them at shows, at the strips, the road courses and occasionally at traffic lights. They will not fade away quietly and where ever their tires lead them, they will still inspire young hearts with awe and envy. So, take a moment next time your walking through your garage or passing up the driveway from getting the paper. Stop and give it a look, maybe a little rub to clean off a speck of dust on the bumper. That’s just not a car, it’s a legend and a classic from this day forward, be it old or new, as there will be no more… So, slip in the 8 track or a CD and play a little Ronnie and the Daytona’s or “Eastbound and down.” Get behind the wheel and you can explain it all to the officer. How it’s really not your fault, one can’t help themselves whenever your in a Pontiac… Burnouts are mandatory...
Here's to Pontiac a brand that symbols all that is and was Automotive Americana. It wasn't always the sporty, high-performing brand it set out to be but, at least, it set out to be something more… You will be sorely missed but never forgotten...
Chief Pontiac...

Club Meetings: For those who are new to the club or paying a visit for the first time. The Club holds it's meetings on the second floor of the Carl Black dealership the 2nd Saturday of each month, at 6pm. If you come out and don't see any club members standing around outside, then they are upstairs in the meeting room...
Yes, we actually hold real meetings, the WTW is no fly by night car club... Unlike some clubs you may have been associated with in the past, the WTW cares about it's members and their input. We don't just stand around in some parking lot making decisions that effect all it's members. We conduct ourselves in a professional manner as an organized club, our meetings are extemely important to us. It's afterwards we go out and play or should I say misbehave...
So, if you are arriving for the meeting, proceed straight ahead as you enter the property. Drive past the service center write up overhang area and park in the back on the west side. (You may or may not see our Pontiac's there depending upon the weather conditions but I assure you that we are there...) Then walk into the dealership's main display room. If you look along the wall to the left of the mounted Longhorn Bull's head. You will see a row of glass windows on the second floor on the east side of the building. Just underneath the TV you will see a hallway proceed down it to the elevator and if you can't find it just ask an employee where's the elevator. When you reach the second floor turn left.
The reason for this post is because from our vantage point during our meetings we have witneesed Pontiac owners come through the parking lot, then leave not knowing where we are and we apologise for this. We are working to have a sign made to place outside so that newbies/vistors can locate us more easily...
(Note: There is no meeting at Carl Blacks in August, when the club attends the New Syrmna cruise in)...
Who I'd like to meet: We want to meet Pontiac owners..................................Here's your chance to see what some of the past trophies have looked like...
