“WHY DO NOT YOU SAY IT” - BENCHMARK ALBUM OF CATALAN MUSIC.
The band was formed in summer 2001 in Bedminster (Bristol) by the two local musicians Errol Hewitt and Xavier Panadès.
Xavier developed the idea of internationalising the music from the Catalonian countries in an acoustic set playing covers from classic Catalan folk musicians and poets.
Xavier approached James Hollingsworth he agreed to help record an album of updated covers from Catalan musicians.
However, after six hours of recording James stopped it because he realised that the talented but bizarre Xavier’s voice did not fit with the music he was trying to sing... except for one song, the largely spoken-word production of “Els Amants”, which with its powerful restless and quick mood changing from sweetness to anger, passion could comfortably be expressed.
James realised that this performance of “Els Amants” revealed Xavier as a unique mixture of a reciter, comedian, declaimer and singer and proceeded to point out to Xavier that this may be his real path in music art.
After having turned Xavier's life upside down in this fashion, James sent him home and suggested to create with Errol their own songs to accommodate his voice.
After only three weeks of intense inspiration and creativity, he and Xavier returned to James' studio and recorded in just one day the mini-album “Why do not you said?”
In Xavier Panades and the C.A.T. (Creative Artistic Temperament), a new form of transcendent music has been born.
It combines to perfection, the three indispensable elements of the Catalan music: the expression of the body, to act, and the temperamental rhapsodies. The result universalizes and modernizes her mediaeval, Francophone, and the recently rock roots.

The album is splashed with rock and psychedelic influences of Pau Riba (Catalan greatest rock artist), the passionate recitations of Ovidi Montllor and Tom Waits, Ozzy Osbourne’s sharp edge, and the extreme vocalizations of Tom Araya, Jacques Le Brel, and Max Calavera.
It breaks through any musical classicism so that people can directly experience the feeling that the words are expressing, regardless of their complexity or the language in which are expressed. It is heavily laced with Xavier’s talent to switch and combine poetry, comedy, acting and tireless recitation.
Their performances are a combination of two extremes working in total harmony. Errol is calm, mysterious and quiet, like a reversed volcano, in huge contrast to Xavier with his chaotic bursts of feeling and Rabelaisian passion.
The album artwork for “Per que no li dius?” has been designed by the collaboration between Joan Fontcuberta. The artwork with this CD is as bizarre and arresting, but effective as Xavier’s Album. The surrealist photomontage was produced by Joan Fontcuberta, a Catalan world-known graphic artist in 1974 a year before Franco’s death.
The art work suggests “walls have ears”, like Xavier’s music, the walls around commercial music have ears and heart!
The music has drawn burgeoning interest from peoples of very different cultural, class, and international backgrounds, as a glance at the band's MySpace page will demonstrate: it is like a party of joyous diversity!
James curiosity paid off and after his experience with the band in the studiohe describes it as the “Poetic Performance Genius of Tom Waits meets Warhol-esque artistry inspired by the Catalan heritage of Dali and Gaudi" (though he's surprised to be quoted on this first suggestion!); Highrise Music says: "a stunningly raw and passionate performance!, which is perhaps a more accessible description; and "Damn good sounding - the voice is one of the strongest imprints I've heard in a while." - Associated Minds.
The band has been gigging around Bristol and already captured media interest. Even before the release of their first album a recent performance was filmed in Bristol for TV3 (The National Catalan TV), with an interview in the authentic atmosphere of the Anglo-Italian venue. Cultural organisations from Catalonia and Euskadi have also showed interest in the band performing in their coming festivals.
The band is currently negotiating their record and distribution deals; composing their second album "Thinking in Cats", with the inclusion of some special guests from the worlds of Jazz and Blues; and setting up a concert program for what looks likely to be a very busy 2008!

Un nou estil que combina a la perfecció, els tres elements indispensables de la musica catalana: l'expressió del cos, actuar, i les rapsòdies temperamentals. El resultat es universalitzar i modernitzar les seves arrels medievals, francòfona, i la recentment rockera.
A l'àlbum es esquitxat amb les influencies rockeres i psicodèliques del Pau Riba, el recitar impecable de l’Ovidi Montllor o el Tom Waits, les voreres afilades d'Ozzy Osbourne, i les vocalitzacions extremes de Tom Araya, Jacques Brel, i Max Calavera.
Les lletres encara que poètiques son abrasives i polèmiques tant com els artistes mencionats, la terra tan verda com quatribarrada, com humana, es sentida cada segon de l’album.

La veu de Xavier té una gran qualitat que sona com una banda sonora de pel•lícula artística sovint repartida amb caràcters contrastats, com un contista de poble d'una edat antiga.
Les seves actuacions són una combinació de dos extrems que treballen en total harmonia. La manera inusual de tocar la guitarra de l’Errol, calmada i misteriosa com un volcà revertit. Contrasta amb els llampecs caòtics de sentiments i passió Rabelaisiana del Xavier.
El 2006 James Hollingsworth acceptà ajudar a enregistrar l’àlbum. Durant la gravació el James s’adonà que la veu del Xavier, amb tant de talent com inusual, no coincidia amb la música que estava cantant...Amb L’excepció d’una cançó “Els amants”, on els tons inquiets i constantment canviants de la seva veu poden desenvolupar-se confortablement; des de ràpids canvis d’humor amb passió, a tocs dolços de lirisme romàntic, a la ràbia i el dolor.
James revela el Xavier com una mescla única de recitador comediant, renunciador, i cantant, i que el seu futur artístic es trobar un balanç genuí d’aquests talents.
L’Errol i el Xavier tornaren tres setmanes més tard a l’estudi del James i enregistraren en només un dia el miniàlbum “Per què no li dius?”.

Recentment, TV3 va entrevistar i filmar una actuació del grup a Bristol. A més a més, diferents organitzacions culturals basques, escoceses, catalanes i txeques han mostrat interès en la banda per actuar als seus festivals.
La banda està actualment composant el segon àlbum, “Pensant en Cats” amb l’inclusió d’alguns músics convidats del món del jazz i blues; i organitzant la gira d’estiu del que sembla un 2008 molt enfeinat.

Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
