I am Aaron Gonzalez. I am primarily a bass player (stand-up and guitar), but I also sing and play keyboards and percussion. I am a composer and improviser; a bandleader, sideman, mutual collaborator, and solo artist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Some of my best known work has been the music I have done with my family. My father is Dennis Gonzalez, an avant-garde jazz trumpeter of some renown. My brother Stefan is a drummer/percussionist who has worked extensively with both free jazz/improv groups and hardcore/punk/grindcore bands since he was very young. Together, the three of us make up the diverse post-avant-jazz outfit Yells at Eels, which is one of our better known family outings. Two offshoot groups, Dennis Gonzalez Jnaana Septet (featuring Chris Parker, Alvin Fielder, and Leena Conquest) and Renegade Spirits (featuring Tim Green and Famoudou Don Moye) also have albums. We have also toured under the moniker Dennis Gonzalez Banda de Brujos, which plays a fusion of Latin-American folk musics and jazz. All members of the family have also appeared on Alvin Fielder's album "A Measure of Vision." Stefan and I have a weirdo grindcore duo called Akkolyte, who have toured extensively, released several 7 inches, and are currently at work on a full-length. Other bands that Stefan and I have appeared in together include the psychedelic shamanic jazz-rock of Unconscious Collective and the Portuguese-Texan jazz exchange of Humanization 4tet, featuring guitarist Luis Lopes and saxophonist Rodrigo Amado.
