CANADIAN INVASION is...
...a crack team of Philadelphia pop rock 'n' rollers, desperately protecting America from the pernicious influence of our northern neighbor's ideology of gun control and healthcare-on-demand by celebrating the esteem-building value of suburban American life.
CI's 2006 record, Songs for the Atco Ghost, garnered praise from fans and critics alike for its "breathy jangle that’s both bubblegum and alt-country" (Philly Weekly). The guys are poised to release the follow-up to Atco Ghost, Three Cheers for the Invisible Hand, in February 2009 via Transit of Venus / Empyrean Records. Three Cheers was recorded with Philly uber-producer Brian McTear of Bitter, Bitter Weeks fame and features 11 new songs.

PRAISE FOR THREE CHEERS FOR THE INVISIBLE HAND (2009)
"As if handed some imaginary baton from the late, great Bigger Lovers, the five-piece Canadian Invasion has inherited the title of Philadelphia’s best power-pop band. The proof is in sophomore album Three Cheers For The Invisible Hand (Transit Of Venus), a smartly written critique of—and ode to—suburbia. Three Cheers doesn’t rock the suburbs with rote teenage angst or anti-sprawl tirades, however; the voice of singer/guitarist Andy Canadian is coming from inside the ranch house, detailing the funny and sad lives of the members of an American family lost in their own bland anonymity. The clever lyrical conceit is held up by sturdy guitar-pop songwriting; Canadian Invasion sounds like Fountains Of Wayne with considerably less cheese, swapping regressive teenage fantasies and gimmicky Cars keyboards for Kinks-like character sketches and Teenage Fanclub guitar chime." -- Magnet
"It's easy to get lost in the jaunty melodies and sublime harmonies of Three Cheers for the Invisible Hand, Canadian Invasion's third disc...But don't take all those sunny sounds at face value, or you'll miss the darkness that lurks in Andy Paull's often absurd tales of suburban malaise." -- Philadelphia City Paper
"It's going to be a power pop gem and a surefire contender for one of [2009's] best discs." -- Bag of Songs
"Canadian Invasion also play some darn good ol’ rock and or roll of the independent variety. Poppy guitars and intelligent lyricism in the same light as R.E.M. and Wilco but….younger. They have a new album...full of social commentary touching on the absurdity of life in suburban America, but also some darn good catchy hooks." -- Pasta Primavera
"Artfully combining catchy melodies with pointed and biting lyrics, this deceptively merry and frothy album offers a fiercely barbed and amusing satirical critique of the pointless shallowness of average suburbanite existence. The perky vocals and sunny arrangements project a sense of artificial happiness that seems like it’s on the cusp of breaking at any given moment: Such grim subjects as alcoholism, murder, infidelity, and lack of faith in organized religion are all tacked head-on in a hilariously nasty manner. A deliciously dark and deadpan serving of acid that’s given an extra kick by being done with a certain sneaky blend of joy and sweetness, this album makes for an often savagely funny and always enjoyable listening experience" -- Jersey Beat
"...the band has a knack for lyrics that expose the not-so-perfect side of our humanity, all done tastefully with near perfect chord progressions and blissful harmonies." -- Girl About Town
Canadian Invasion - "One Hand Claps the Other"
From the album THREE CHEERS FOR THE INVISIBLE HAND
"The group has formed a genre of its own, we're calling it Americana BritPop. Don't be surprised if this five-piece ends up influencing others in the future, because frankly, they're really, really good." -- On Tap Magazine
"[Canadian Invasion] possess British-pop sensibilities mixed with guitar-driven American rock that can leave you happily humming the tunes." -- Washington Post
"...a heady early-/mid-'90s rock sensibility...enough to make you wonder why you haven't put the Lemonheads in your CD player in so long..." -- Philadelphia Weekly
"Melodic and multi-layered, with rich harmonies and full production"
"Offers lush three minute utopias." -- WAMU Radio "Metro Connection" (NPR)
I'm happy to announce that my new album "Songs From The Films Of David Lynch" is out now.
"Truly unsettling and perplexingly brilliant... testament to both the quality of Lynch’s soundtracks and Truax’s talents" - The Skinny
"Truax is paying homage to a kindred spirit with this album. It's the best kind of tribute – affectionate and respectful, but with its own quirks and imaginative leaps and its own distinct identity." -The Scotsman
Thanks for the comment. Glad you like the record. We should do a show together soon. You mentioned something about an outdoor show in July on Facebook?
You may like to check out my recently released book - 100 Great Albums. It's a 220 page review of the best music recorded during the period 1965-08 featuring the Beatles,Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Joy Division, U2, Nirvana, Radiohead, the Strokes and many more!
My aim is to prolong the existence of something close to my heart, something currently under severe threat from the download generation - The Album! With the modern world increasingly more interested in cherry-picking individual tracks, it seems to me a great shame that the sacred long-player is losing its importance. I'm on a mission to save the album before it's too late.
If you click on the button below you can access further details about the book (including an option to preview some of the content) before deciding whether you want to buy. All the best Andy.
