Announcing the
arrival of a most peculiar graphic novel
experience -- Larry Marder's BEANWORLD!
BEANWORLD has captivated readers from grade school to grad school since its first publication as a series of comic books in the 1980s. Starting in February, 2009, Dark Horse Comics will reboot Beanworld as a series of affordable hardcover albums collecting all the existing Beanworld comic book stories. Those books will be followed by a series of original graphic novels, in the same format, starting with “Remember Here When You Are There!” to be released during the 2009 Holiday Season.
Marder explains,” Beanworld is a series of humorous adventure stories that unfolds in a weird fantasy dimension featuring a tribe of talking Beans. It's like “A Bugs Life” meets “Mutts”, as told by Dr. Seuss & Joseph Campbell. Beanworld operates under its own rules and laws. All the characters, whether they are good friends or terrible adversaries, understand that ultimately they depend on each other for survival. More than anything else, Beanworld is about the affinity of life. Folks tell me that, in exploring this theme, it also reflects some deep truths about our world.
“When Beanworld was first published, many people said it was ahead of its time," Marder adds. "Looking at today's readership nourished on a steady diet of fantasy from Pixar, Cartoon Network, and manga, I think it's fair to say that Beanworld's time has come. I'm looking forward to working closely with the my editor, Diana Schutz,, and the incredibly talented team at Dark Horse to introduce the Beanworld to this comics-literate world!"
