What exactly is so special about our treats? Why couldn’t you just get the generics from the store? Aren’t they all the same? .... I’m asked these questions a lot. For someone who always buys the generic brand no matter what, I doubt I will convince you otherwise.

The whole reason I started this store was because my own dogs couldn’t eat the generic brand treats. They couldn’t even eat the really good stuff. They had developed food allergies to chicken and pork because the treats and foods they had eaten their whole life were made with such poor quality “chicken meals” and by products. They were so loaded with sugar that I believe my dogs were diabetic and we didn’t even know it. As a concerned dog owner and “dad”, I started researching what is available here and in other parts of the country. Dog bakeries exist in other places, like Kansas City, Los Angeles, and New York, servicing dogs that have allergies to common foods and treats. Why don’t we have one of these around here? I asked.

Then I started reading ingredients on all dog treats I could find. Holy cow. Everything is sugar or corn syrup. Artificial this and that were main ingredients. That’s when I decided we needed something around here that can provide good products for our dogs – something that will be nutritious and healthy – something without all of those chemicals, additives, and palatability enhancers. Why should we have to trick the animal that it tastes good? Because it really doesn’t!

I have heard so many stories now, of dogs that wouldn’t eat treats, but will eat ours. Or dogs that are 15 years old and snatched a whole bag off the counter, when they hadn’t done that in 5 years. Dogs that are blind and have one tooth, but look forward each night to getting their evening treat. Dogs that when boarded, wouldn’t eat their food unless one of our treats was crumbled up and sprinkled on top. One lady said she shops our store because she can come in and see us making the treats right there, and during the pet food recall, that made all the difference to her. Dogs that steal, beg, and bite to get our treats from their brothers and sisters.

We use all natural ingredients. We use human grade flour and oats. We use mashed potatoes for the icing on the Barkday cakes so they don’t contain any sugar like regular cakes. We bake everything in Arkansas – not China. We don’t use any wheat gluten – we use quality protein sources, like liver, eggs, and whey. We use real canned vegetables from Wal-Mart. We have a real store – we’re not baking these at home for mail order. That makes us accountable because you know where to find us! We’re currently selling these at three veterinary clinics in the area. We’re here for the long haul.

So, to answer those questions – yes, you could just buy the generic brand dog treats. Our treats are that special because they are just that special. When your dog is 15 years old, and the only game they will play anymore is the treat hide and seek game with Bigwag treats, then you’ll understand.
