Buxton is a folk act based in the LaPorte/Houston area. They've played with such notable acts as Okkervil River, Akron/Family, Man Man, Great Lake Swimmers, Maria Taylor, Copeland, Colour Revolt, Anathallo, Look Mexico, Gatsbys American Dream, Statistics and Denison Witmer. After a couple of Texas tours, a Gulf Coast tour and an East Coast tour they went in to record their follow up to 'Red Follows Red' entitled 'A Family Light'. It was released on January 19th, 2008 on the Mia Kat Empire label. Soon after they wrote new material with their new drummer resulting in 7" vinyl featuring the songs 'Flint' and 'Feathers'. There will only be 500 available, and it will be on yellow vinyl. Come out to the release party July 11th at the new Houston venue Mango's.

Press from the 7" 'Feather / Flint'
"...The kind of future collectible thing you'll want to own when they become famous...One of Houston's finest bands" The Houston Chronicle
"Feathers alone is my call for song of the year...It's the stuff that will get you dancing and will take your darkest days and make them bright and joyous." Ramon Medina, Free Press Houston
"...The 7 incher from Heaven to bring Houstonians what they love." IndieHouston
"The songs are classics; they definitely pay the past a nod, but the band has built solid tunes on a time-tested foundation and then adorned it with a dash of modernity, giving them a timeless quality." Marc Brubaker, Houstonist
"If there's an award for Best Hooky Riff of the Year, these guys should be in the running." Jeremy Hart, Space City Rock
"...an album that weaves heartbreaking tales and thoughtful musicianship with folk, country and indie-rock ideas to create an electric, exciting collection of songs" - Sara Cress, The Houston Chronicle
"Simply put, this album's a stunner...the band has an all-too-rare sense of dynamics and knack for strong choruses and male-female, call-and-response vocals." - John Nova Lomax, Houston Press
"Straight out of LaPorte, out in the Houston 'burbs, comes some of the coolest mostly-acoustic music you're likely to hear this side of Austin. Buxton are one of a small handful of indie-folk bands in town who've taken the current folk idiom and pulled it backwards to an earlier time, and they're one of the best around, for my money, in or out of Houston." - Pedro, Space City Rock
"I went back and forth forever trying to decide whether I should give the top spot to a local band that's mostly unknown outside of Houston. But in all honesty, 2008 found me listening to A Family Light more than any other album. It's a brilliant full-length debut from this young quartet, and it speaks volumes about their talent, versatility and promise."
- Breakfast on Tour Top Albums of 2008 by Cereal
"...One band in particular strikes us as having used the studio to extend their songs into new sonic spaces beyond where they exist live. Their recordings have consistently added complimenting guitars and pet sounds their solid straight-up performances." - The Skyline Network Sammie Awards
Press from 'Red Follows Red'
"What they ended up with on last year's release, Red Follows Red, is a rambling pretty library of stories anchored by Trevino's startling warble and Willis' twee plucking." - Sara Cress, The Houston Chronicle - Newspaper Clipping
I broke my leg, otherwise i would have been at the show...heard it was gnarly.BTW I've been telling my peeps to vote for Sergio for best male vocals so if you can help a sista out and tell your friends to vote for me for best female vocals I'd appreciate it! Lovesssss...Kam
Hey guys...awesome show tonight. It was my brother's first Buxton show and he had a great time so thanks for that. and thanks for this lovely vinyl you gave everyone.
One thing about the downloadable mp3s though. If you're using Windows (not sure how it works on a mac), when you unzip the files, they won't unzip because it tries to create a folder with a quotation mark in its title, which is impossible in Windows. There's an easy fix though so if you or anyone else needs help with this fix, email me at derekpeake2@gmail.com and i'll be happy to share my quick fix so everyone can enjoy these songs digitally. Also, i have my own modified version of the zip file that's been fixed, so let me know if you need it to upload it or whatever.
Saw you guys will be playing the free press summer fest! I haven't heard you guys' stuff since about 2006 so I came to check up... I absolutely love the direction yall have taken... good stuff! Can't wait to come back to Houston in August and hear!
We missed you guys last night, but they played your CD between sets a couple times, so that was kinda the same (not really). Can't wait for the make-up show (hint.hint). Hope all is well in H-town. :)
I really like Jackalope. I might have to go to Houston and see you guys play. Its not that far away and it sounds like it would be worth it. Check some of our stuff and maybe we could set something in Beaumont if you guys want. -Dathan
