"Caught Collapsed Toilet Vietnam and Pissbolt last night. Both bands ruled. When I was leaving the venue, I turned to a friend and said, "Isn't it just ridiculous that a band like Collapsed Toilet Vietnam can just get on a stage with a taped-together drum kit and a one-string bass, make a bunch of made-up screaming and noise and actually find an audience with that nonsense?" "Yeah", he said, "and yet some putz will still buy their t-shirt". That putz is me. I was clutching my new purchase under my arm at the time. I will wear it with pride." - Dave Lang - www.manwithoutshame.blogspot.com

CISTERN EXISTENCE debut cassette OUT NOW
Limited to 75 copies SOLD OUT!Words about the first CTV show:
I spent the weekend at my parents house: this is always an enriching experience, but obviously it is bleak. The recent death of a family member will always complicate matters. Driving back to Melbourne listening to the kinds of tunes that hold out in a car journey AND don't destroy the patience of my wife, we managed to avoid being ballbeaten by the police on one fortuitous occasion and arrived in time to watch the new episode of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and for me to get to the Pony bar to witness the live debut of Melbourne noisecore band COLLAPSED TOILET VIETNAM.
I would describe this experience as THE PERFECT SOUNDTRACK TO GETTING OUT OF A CAR AFTER DRIVING EIGHT HOURS FROM YOUR PARENTS HOUSE WHILE ALL WEEKEND BEING REMINDED OF DEATH. Four well seasoned Melbourne "musicians" banging out a fairly improvisational set of what was originally intended to be, from what I can understand, blasting grindy beats and abrasive guitar / bass, but due to an accident with the drumset and the fact the drummer plays using the kick drum as a snare, it just sounds like a fucked up hardcore punk band who are playing TOO LOUD for you to be able to understand what the fuck is going on. I have bought a record recently that I'll write about in a future issue of DISTORT called TAYLOR BOW: HATE FUCK, and C.T.V. are somewhat comparable (sheer terror noisecore), but I'd also say they would sound OK on a mixtape with other noise terrorists like DISCLOSE.

...Collapsed Toilet Vietnam. Something of a noise music supergroup - featuring members of xxxxxxxxxx, xxxx xxxxxxx, xxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxxx and various others - they've come together to create experimental grind that actually inspires awe (as opposed to just being awesome). The loudest band I've seen in a long time, they punctuate their songs with feedback sirens and one-string bass crunches. It's a wall of sound assault, in a way that somehow reminds me of a grind version of Public Enemy. I fucking love it when noise musicians turn their hands to other genres, as their tendency to experiment always adds an uncertain dimension to the sound, while at the same time removing the meandering, unstructured pretension that plagues straight-up noise acts. CTV brings the expertise of four of Melbourne's most established noise musicians together, and you seriously have to get your ass down to one of their ten minute sets. Make sure you're on time.

Further words about CTV live:
Collapsed Toilet Vietnam are a new-ish 4-piece featuring veterans from other bands like xxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxxx, xxxx xxxxxxx and literally dozens of others who hammer out an absurd, grunting din which sounds like Half Japanese or the Happy Flowers playing Drunks With Guns' first LP. Primitive shit-rock with a beat you can almost dance to. I like their style. There will soon be a split cassette release from CTV and Pissbolt. Yes, a cassette. - www.manwithoutshame.blogspot.com (xxx = edited by CTV)

CTV Tonight play their set in two parts, one a blasty-noise blast of time, the second and final half a building sort of exercise. Set's a total joy, Come back again. Seventeen minutes."

The Scroungers sound like punk was always supposed to, but rarely did; urgent, raw and dripping with sardonic anger. The fact that the Scroungers (a solo home recording project) grew partially out of Macka's growing dissatisfaction the Melbourne punk scene of the early 1990s is somewhat ironic. Working in relative isolation and never performing live, Macka recorded a large body of work that is arguably the rawest, high-octane, politically and socially incisive punk rock the country has ever produced. Yet the Scroungers remain unknown to all but a few.

You guys give my life meaning. I guess I should talk to a doctor about this...but...really...I can't imagine a world without Collapsed Toilet Vietnam in it...it would be a very shitty place.
