Confluence began with the serendipitous meeting between Casey and Elaine at an open mic, hosted by a local coffee shop in Mukilteo, Washington. Elaine, accompanied by her iPod dock station, was rediscovering a high school love affair with music and singing to an attentive, albeit, caffeinated crowd. Taken by Elaine’s sultry voice, Casey was prompted to ask if she knew Norah Jones’ number one hit, Don’t Know Why. And there, before a curiously awake audience, they performed Norah’s first big hit song. The two clicked and soon began to offer a collection of Casey's original RiverPeople songs, and heartfelt jazz, blues and pop to coffee drinkers throughout Puget Sound. They were soon joined by the self-described obsessive compulsive guitarist, Ivan Lee, and the tight bass lines of Jerry Fleet. What started as Skeffland (Skeffington+Garland), grew into a richer sound, attracting larger audiences. Confluence’s popularity continues to grow as they play for sold-out crowds in the greater Seattle area.
(Oct 2009): As Ivan now focuses time on recording a 'backlog' of great solo and C3 music, Confluence is happy to welcome guitarist/songwriter Scott Becker to our fold! We're excited about the considerable talents he brings to the mix, while looking forward to occasional "guest performances" by Ivan when the musical stars align.

Casey is a veteran of the whitewater rafting and kayaking industry, outfitting and guiding river trips for 36 years on the rivers of Washington and Oregon. His other life long passion is playing and teaching guitar. Hopelessly in love with rivers and music, Casey continues downstream through this life pursuing his passions like a starving artist with a twinkle in his eye from all that has gone before and that which is yet to come. Casey has also authored several original musical compositions with RiverPeople.
Elaine has enjoyed a lifelong love affair with performing (voice, piano, flute, dance and theater). A well-timed artistic mid-life crisis brought music back to her life with renewed passion. In addition to singing again (including several local television appearances), Elaine is for the first time embracing the challenge of songwriting. Elaine has posted several performance videos on YouTube as mamasinger.
Jerry was snatched from the cradle by the music muse and never let go. After performing as a youngster on several instruments, the bass guitar finally picked him as a dance partner and stole him away, taking him on journeys across the northwest and Canada, to California and Hawaii. Playing all styles of music from big horn funk bands to soft acoustic trios, he’s had the good fortune of playing and recording with many stellar musicians in countless venues to wonderful audiences large and small. He can be found disguised as a mild-mannered architect when not excessively grinning on stage, but don’t be fooled...
Scott found music as an outlet as a teenager, and was often playing guitar when the authorities believed he was busy trying to amount to something. Whether the music was rock, blues, country, jazz, fusion, reggae, and back again, Scott’s love of playing served as a passionate escape from real work, in whatever time there was to spare. Always contrary in musical vision, Scott co-founded successive alt-folk bands in the Emerald City, simultaneous with the emergence of grunge. With Straw Dogs, he toured briefly and finally scratched the itch of playing for a living. A little was enough of that however, and since then he has happily plied his design trade while playing out whenever a gig permits. By the way, if someone asks, tell them he is meeting with a client, or something like that.
Ivan (guest guitarist) is an accomplished musician, composer, studio owner, recording engineer and when need arises an electrical design engineer. He has produced two of his own CD’s, including Finger on the Past, Eye on the Future (2008), and an instrumental collection called Acoustic Massage (2004). Ivan also plays with the C3 (formerly the Steve Ball Roadshow) and Creeping Time (original grassrock/groundcover).
Hey Casey & Elaine and the gang...TOTALLY miss you. So sorry we'll be out at Whidbey for your show this Sat. Our timing sucks! Can't wait to see you again!
