Dave Derby's musical career began auspiciously as lead singer and bassist of 90's Boston-based alt-rock heroes the Dambuilders, a band once decreed by Spin Magazine to be the best "indie band in America." Shortly thereafter, the Dambuilders inked a major label deal (East-West/Elektra), released several critically acclaimed albums and imploded in the middle of a final fateful American tour. Returning to his new home in New York City, Derby recorded his first solo outing under the moniker Brilliantine and released two albums ("Vainglory" and "My Life and the Beautiful Game.")
Dave released his first acclaimed solo record "Even Further Behind" on Badman in 2003. Produced by Derby, Michael Kotch (Vitamin C, Mascott, Joanaspolicewoman, Lloyd Cole) and Thom Monahan (Pernice Brothers, Beachwood Sparks, Devandra Berrnhardt) the record was a glorious pop explosion.
Dave's upcoming record, "Dave Derby and the Norfolk Downs", was produced and mixed by Derby and features performances by Derby, Kotch, Lloyd Cole, Jill Sobule, Chris Brokaw (Come, Codeine, Consonant, Steve Wynn) Kendall Meade (Mascott, Sparklehorse, Helium), Ben Perowsky (Joanaspolicewoman, the Lounge Lizards, Elysian Fields) Vitamin C, David Poe, Joan Wasser (Joanaspolicewoman, Dambuilders), Kevin March (Guided By Voices, Shudder to Think, Dambuilders), Leila Mack, Phoebe Summersquash (Mascott, Godrays, Small Factory), Rainy Orteca (Mascott, Joanaspolicewoman) Chris Nakata (Ruth Ruth) and Jud Ehbrar (Reservoir, Varnaline).

Yes, the destiny of Big Star isn..t really appropriate.. everybody has heard of Led Zeppelin, but none of Big Star... (except major geeks like I, but perhaps that..s beacause I live on the outer rim of the galaxy! (LOL)
And I remember that it wasn..t soccer that was the first topic of ours really, but the resemblence of your song sunset sublet and Neil Young..s motion picture.. One can tell, that it Mr Young has inspired you through the years!
Blood on the track and Planet waves were made in the same period of time/year(s) 1974-75? and they are a token of dylan..s enormous capacity as a song writer and lyricist... And, dave.. You..re right again.. I think Blood on the tracks is the more "dross-free" of these album... You mentioned Blood on the tracks, a while ago, when i had a rough time, and it was soothing to listen t his music and lines again... I was thirteen whan I listened to Blood on the tracks for the first time, but didn..t really understand the width of it then (for natural reasons).. It..s pure music history, as great as music by Mozart or ravel... so much to say.. so little time.. Your fan, r
PS.. so sorry that Nick drake didn..t get psycho-therapy or good anti-depressants, but then again.. perhaps his music wouldn..t have had that enormous melancholical impact...
Great performance, despite a terrible cold, by Mr Lloyd Cole last weekend at the Concert House of Gothenburg... Only had this wet dream that You, Neil Clark, Blair Cowan, Rafa Maciejak could accompany him... Or equally good... That it would be possible to hear "Since Last September" live by your band... Alas.. Must listen to that song for the 1001st time.. It drills into my head (read heart) in a rather pleasant way! (LOL)
