The Dragonfly Races Is Ellis' 14th Album and his debut into the Family/Childrens genre. The songs on the album are intended to be sweet and playful yet insightful and thoughtful. Written in true to form Ellis Paul style of compelling and witty story telling; each song will bring both parents and children into a picture that Ellis paints with each lyric. Themes of peace, unity, and a sense of the planet as a whole underlie the album with grace rather than overstatement. To make the CD even more special, Ellis has married his drawing and painting skills with his music. All the artwork was done by Ellis, fulfilling his dream of putting the two together. The songs and artwork are clearly meant to be enjoyed by children as well as adults and promises to be a significant addition to the genre of family music.

I got a word machine in my head. It's a damn noisy contraption. Constantly running. No "off" switch. I'm cursed. Still. I can't keep 'em in my mouth. Quiet. I think out loud. Too much. The words trip out like a drunk on an obstacle course. I'm trying to get me to somewhere better. I'm looking for that scenic view. Pull over. Listen awhile. Watch for a minute. I like the quiet sometimes. God didn't make all this noise.
I hitched rides with a guitar. I bought tickets with songs. I saw the country. I've broken every highway rule. Most more than twice. Fifteen years of asphalt have spun beneath my heels. Ten albums and four hundred songs. A Thousand nights of pull out couches, cotton sheets in cheap motels. Boston to Big Sur. Homer to Homestead. Paris, Texas to Paris, Maine. Exotic places. I dashed between seasons. I never got wet. I could out maneuver the wind. I kept myself dry. I've seen four seasons in a week's time. Flown on the wings of time machines. I've carried the same pack of matches for twenty years, but I've always kept a live flame close by.
I'm looking for the next transport. Waiting on a song. I'm getting warm.
"A singer songwriter is only as good as the times he reflects. In times like these, when so many nuts are running the show, it's comforting to know that Ellis Paul is actually holding our sanity on his own stage! Wise, tender, brilliant and biting, Ellis is one of our best human compasses, marking in melodies and poems where we've been and where we might go if we so choose to. Personally Ellis, I'm goin' where you're goin'!" --Nora Guthrie (Woody Guthrie's daughter)
