Announcement!!!

EXP24 @ KiNETIKA!

8.30-11pm, Friday 14th November

Upsatirs @ The Adelphi, 1-3 Hunslett Road, Leeds, LS10 1JQ

£3.50/£4.50 entry on door

EXP24 are a Leeds-based experimental film collective working with Super 8 and 16mm with a penchant for film happenings. They will be unveiling their very own beautiful, hand-crafted and hand-processed films created in their newly established proto film lab! Share in the EXP24 experience in the relaxed and informal environment of the Adelphi upstairs room with live soundtracks, eclectic music and a bar! Come and witness gorgeous experimental cinema made by Leeds' very own lab rat cineastes!

This event will be experimental in form as well as content, challenging traditional notions of cinema ‘screenings’. EXP24 will present films and works in progress on Super 8, 16mm and digital formats, with plenty of breaks and good music. There will also be some installations in the lounge area. Featured screenings include EXP24’s hand-made films and also films created by people who have participated in EXP24-run workshops. EXP24 enjoys creating film events which are accessible to all and at the same time challenge commonly held notions of what cinema is, so come along and enjoy the sociable atmosphere as well as the moving images.

EXP24 Launch Party Saturday 27th September 2008 6-9pm

@East Street Arts Patrick Studios St Marys Street, Leeds LS9 7EN

Come and celebrate the launch of EXP24’s new proto film lab, at ESA Patrick Studios, Leeds! This is our first proper base, and we want it to become a space where artists, filmmakers and newbies alike can come to talk, learn and create together.

films/performances/badges!/archaic film exhibits/interactive stuff/raffle/musique/the cinema of mirrors/video/installation/bar/afterparty in a secret location!/

EXP24 is a not-for-profit film collective. As well as making and screening experimental film, we are dedicated to creating a space where people can share ideas, be inspired and learn how to do it themselves. We want to:

-Engage both experienced makers of and new-comers to experimental film from the UK and beyond to screen both celluloid and digital film/animation.

-Provide a platform for live performance and installation that breaks away from the frame and traditional cinema formats.

-Actively encourage a relaxed environment where conversation can through knowledge, experience and enthusiasm breed new ideas and collaborations.

Who I'd like to meet:

This Saturday!

VISUAL MUSIC: EXP24 Camera-less 16mm Film Workshop!

12-4pm, Saturday 6th September 2008, 3rd Floor Meeting Room, Central Library, Leeds

FREE ENTRY!!

Screening at 4.30pm

EXP24 invites you to collaborate on a handmade film and soundtrack as part of the LIME festival. Working with film is often seen as expensive and inaccessible. This hands-on, practical introduction to 16mm experimental filmmaking will show that film can be immediate, accessible and fun!

Come and create a collaborative film and collaged soundtrack over the course of an afternoon. Draw, paint, scratch, sing, shout... Materials will be provided.

The workshop is free, open access and suitable for all ages (under 12’s need to be accompanied by an adult). Feel free to drop by for half an hour, or stay for the whole afternoon.

The film will be screened at 4.30pm in the workshop space.

RE-FORM[AT] Super 8 & HD Workshops!

Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st August

East Street Arts Patrick Studios

A weekend of practical introductions to two very different moving image formats, presented in collaboration with Lumen, Leeds.

Screening: Sunday 14th September 2008: 6-9pm: Victoria Hotel, Leeds:

Workshop films plus an extra special selection of recent film & performance from EXP24 collective filmmakers

EXP24 are EXPanding!

EXP24 now have our very own base at ESA Patrick Studios, Leeds! This will be a temporary residency, on our way to establishing an experimental, independent D.I.Y. artist-run film lab in Leeds!

We will be building a resource for filmmakers in Leeds by providing:

- a library of lots of good books, leaflets and info about independent, experimental and D.I.Y. filmmaking/processing

- providing regular workshops for filmmakers and newbies who want to investigate super 8, standard 8 and 16mm filmmaking, processing and editing. Full details of these workshops and costs will be available soon.

- contributing towards the ESA film/video programme by programming exciting and experimental film, performance, video & animation

- hopefully collaborating with loads of people, generating discussions and generally promoting the use of film for all!

Stay in touch, we'll send more information about what's going on soon!

EXP24 Super 8 Workshop Exhibition

7th-15th April 2008

in partnership with Leeds College of Art & Design

This exhibition is the document of a collaboration between EXP24, students and staff at Leeds College of Art and Design.

EXP24 facilitated an intensive two-day introduction to the Super 8 format, focusing on creative filmmaking practice and hand processing techniques.

This practical workshop demonstrated the accessibility and relative low cost of Super 8 as a creative medium for artists and filmmakers, and actively encouraged students to make and show work in the future.

Aloha Sinners, a big thanks to everyone who helped ram the Packhorse on Friday night, it was a corker! But if you missed it don’t fret we’ll be back there at the end of May. In the meantime one half of the Jukebox, my good self and blues ukulele maestro Miss Lotus Dubois are supporting the wonderful CURTIS ELLER, THIS WED 16TH APRIL, at THE NEW ROSCOE, Bristol Street, Leeds. We’re on at 9pm and we hope to see some of you there.

Hallelujah Sinners!
THE DEVIL’S JUKEBOX are back once again on FRIDAY 11th APRIL at THE PACKHORSE, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds.
Aided and abetted by the rousing strains of the rural assassinator and all round gent DAVID BROAD, the ragtime banjo-jangle and Americana of notorious bon vivant EWAN D RODGERS, and the bizarre and wonderful chicken bothering blues-a-billy of Aces and Eight’s very own Mr X-RAY CAT.
Plus some lovely tunes of the twenties and thirties I’ve managed to load down from 78’s onto some of those new-fangled CD thingumajigs.
So for an evening of unrestrained drinking, quality musical mayhem and light frottage, remember, Jesus saves, but the Devil’s Jukebox urges you to blow it all on whisky and song.
Stay Suave, Dr Bordello
Marcus Hansmann
