"It's starting to look like the musical talent pool in Montreal is deeper than Lake Baikal. Even among a luminary, headlining-grabbing sea of indie rock stars Flotilla's One Hundred Words For Water stands out as one of the most original and engaging albums released by a new Canadian group recently. A more optimistic Portishead or what Torngat might sound like as a pop band? It's exceedingly difficult to find an apt comparison without feeling a vital dynamic descriptor has been shirked. Naming highlights is equally taxing while traversing the album's angelic soundscapes but the afterglow of the heavenly funk breakdown in "Charlie, I'm Through" is undeniable. Water is teeming with distinct melodies, sophisticated arrangements, subtly syncopated rhythms and perpetually evolving song structures, and Flotilla have a boat-load of tricks for keeping their art rock ship steady while sailing a course straight through musical wonderment and on to bliss." Great CD review in this issue of Exclaim Magazine, 'Water is teeming with distinct melodies, sophisticated arrangements, subtly syncopated rhythms and perpetually evolving song structures, and Flotilla have a boat-load of tricks for keeping their art rock ship steady while sailing a course straight through musical wonderment and on to bliss'

That was a great set at The Tranzac. A buoyant technicolor sound that weaves together elements of indie-pop and post-modern lounge, floating over heavenly harp playing, bristling guitars and twinkling keyboards. The songs are intricately constructed, boasting the summer-glow vocals of Veronica Charnley. Combining easy-listening gems with an innate pop sense, the band delivered a beautifully honest performance.
Hi Veronica et al., We got "Charlie, I'm Through" on the podcast this week! Details here: http://historyjen.blogspot.com/2009/06/podcast-42-4-10-june-2009.html. Cheers, and see you Thursday (assuming this cold goes away), Jen
From the Tranzac to Sneaky Dee's, and all points in between, Flotilla is a Toronto favourite. The new CD will just prove that this is a jewel of a band.
