"They are prepared to die for rock and roll. Consider the recent image of mid-Ulster band General Fiasco, tied and blindfolded, taking a final drag on a Benson. The reason for their execution isn't given, but you can guess that they're guilty of some fearsome crime to deserve the firing squad. Only bullets will stop them now. Hey, it's only a press photograph, taken by the very talented Phil O'kane, but it says plenty. The average shot of a local band comes complete with its own apology. Most acts are incapable of throwing a few poses, or even dressing up a bit, in case their mates laugh at them. Concepts are pretty much outlawed. But General Fiasco are above the petty ridicules. Also, their songs are easy to remember and they have a thumping intensity that's rather cool. I can happily live with the pop shapes of 'Rebel Get By' or 'A Wise Decision', which finds the boy doing a runner from the girl and wondering if he's made the right call.....In all the Fiasco songs, the lovers are at odds and the aftershock is bad for the liver and the heart. That's definitely the scenario for 'Maybe I'm A Little Bit Strange' where the entire system is under stress and the prospects are poor. Collectively though, it's good news. General Fiasco are up there in the rankings, already."

Review for our enemy support
Our second support act are the similarly promising General Fiasco, who seem like an inspired bit of booking. They're a poppier Supergrass, young and precocious with music to match. It's good-time fun music, built for dancing and disposing - the sign of great pop. Their youth is apparent as they break out new songs with enthusiasm - no cynical jaded world-weariness here. 'Tell Me All The Things' is the sort of song that could be a great soundtrack to a summer - bouncy, rocky, with a vibe and feeling of youth and optimism - while the same compliment could be paid to closing track 'Rebel Get By.' If you're young, carefree, and wanting some fun - slap these guys on your playlist. You won't regret it.

Despite their youth, General Fiasco are fast becoming one of the most serious contenders in Northern Ireland. Tonight's show is a medley of old material like 'Rebel Get By' and newer tunes like 'Talk To My Friends'. From the sounds of it, things are only set to get better.

Rigsy regales us with ten tremendous things about the Oh Yeah Sessions album, and the great gig that launched it, at the Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast. 7. General Fiasco are on the CD, but don't play this show as they're headlining their own across town. ATL rushes over to Auntie Annies, but doesn't make it in time. We're gutted - the show was rammed and apparently it kicked off a bit. The crowd, pouring out onto the Dublin road, look exhausted, but happy. Armed with arguably the most enthusiastic fan base in the country, they've almost everything in place.
