we wake up sunday morning to survey the damage, the band from the night before is asleep on the stage carpet. they drove hundreds of miles to get here, it's their first tour, in a strange city where any given night there's a hundred different shows, so who cares right? but something happened last night, you couldn't move in here, not a goddamn muscle. some guy's heckling the band as they set up and everyones laughing, they all seem to know him. the band doesn't say much. who would? the crowd looks like a bunch of crazies, half gutterpunk, half eccentric artist type, a bunch of small town kids taking back the city. the p.a. is humming something fierce, maybe tonights the night it all goes up in flames. a couple of snare shots, the band is ready, feedback is piercing the thickness of the air. One...Two...Three...Four.....BAM! and then it happens. the crowd surges as one, the entire room is the pit. the band and the crowd are indistinguishable from each other. it's chaos. and it's beautiful.
This is High Art for the Low Down. this is 4 years of smokey lofts, sweaty pits and frenetic performances. the bands and fans face to face, check your ego at the door.
HIGH ART FOR THE LOW DOWN is a Toronto based punk rock Label / Venue / Artist Collective / All Round Nice People. since 2005 we have hosted a ton of shows for touring bands from across north america in our little (entirely illegal) venue located in the HA4TLD clubhouse. we throw All Ages shows, where we don't sell booze, and the bands get most, if not all, money from the door. bands rock out, sleep on our floor, practice, and record here. it's a punk rock utopia right downtown in the city. get in touch with us if your band is coming thru T.O. and you need a place to play, crash, or you're playing somewhere else in the city and think we might like your band (we live for live music). 2009 is gonna be a great year with releases in May from The Burnitdowns, The Bag Ladies, & The 68pornomags. Also the entire roster will be hitting the road this summer with national tours. Be on the watch. SEE YA IN THE PIT!
