The Little Howdy Do? Festival in February 08's Blurbs
About me:
HOWDY DO? Howdy Do? is an alt-folk and country club night that’s been running at The Borderline for just over a year now. During that time we’ve been lucky enough to have had some amazing bands and troubadours grace our stage, including Kitty, Daisy and Lewis, Eugene Mcguiness, Fanfarlo, The Veils, Alberta Cross, Noah and The Whale and The New York Fund to mention a few.

Coming up in February we have a series of gigs featuring some of our favourite bands from the past year, and some that we've been in love with for a while...

TUES 19th FEB

LIAM FROST

+ THE WALLBIRDS + NAUGHTY JACK

Building a devoted fanbase in Manchester and wowing crowds nationwide supporting fellow troubadour Stephen Fretwell, Liam has also shared a stage with Nine Black Alps, Willy Mason, Badly Drawn Boy and Kinks Legend Ray

"Young, fun and riotously talented, Liam Frost and the Slowdown Family are a free-wheeling 21st century folk carnival". -NME

with support from three piece chaotic country-folk rockers The Wallbirds, and Naughty Jack…
"Naughty Jack ... this years Seasick Steve" -Blues Matters

WEDS 20th FEB

NEIL HALSTEAD - CANCELLED! Unfortunately Neil is no longer able to play this show due to personal circumstances (happy ones though)

PETER AND THE WOLF + MUMFORD & SONS + MORRISON STEAM FAYRE (they will be playing nevertheless - Thanks guys! xxx)

Photobucket

Former member of shoegaze noisesters Slowdive and currently to be found playing with Mojave 3, Time Out has called Neil Halstead "one of Britain's greatest songwriters"; NME said he wrote "the kind of honest, heartfelt love songs men are too scared or too cool to write these days".

With support from Peter and the Wolf (“Delicious harmonies and jazzy bass, this lot come over like The White Stripes enjoying cocktail hour” – NME) and Morrison Steam Fayre.

FRI 22nd FEB

THE CRIMEA

+ FRANK HAMILTON + MATHEW SAWYER

Formed from the remnants of The Crocketts, The Crimea have crafted songs that veer from child-like infectious singalongs, to apocalyptic meltdowns which crescendo with singer Davey McManus' piercing screams.

“Davey Mcmanus has always been a visionary frontman… at once eccentric, charming, poetic and imaginative. - ROCKSOUND

“Decribed as ‘the Mike Skinner of folk’, Frank’s writing is every bit as engaging as the bands live show" - Music Week

MATHEW SAWYER AND THE GHOSTS: "Blue Birds Blood is a forgotten box of cobwebbed pop tinder, its songs waiting loyally for the noisy tumble of shrapnel through the rusted guts of old penny slot machines. Get it and treasure it" -Drowned in Sound 9 / 10.

SAT 23rd FEB

KITTY DAISY & LEWIS

+ PEGGY SUE AND THE PIRATES + THE DIAMOND FAMILY ARCHIVE

..Photobucket

Sibling sensations Kitty Daisy and Lewis return after their sell out show last year, bringing with them their classic rhythm and blues, rockabilly and rock n roll. Support comes from lo-fi duo Peggy and The Pirates, plus The Diamond Family Archive.

Tickets for all gigs are available from: www.wegottickets.com / www.ticketweb.co.uk or The Jazz Cafe in Camden Town and from Stargreen Ticket Office.
Who I'd like to meet:

Bands and artists we've been lucky enough to meet in the last year have included:

Alberta Cross Kitty Daisy and Lewis Noah and the Whale The Veils The Bobby McGees Unkle Bob Peter and The Wolf Connan and The Mockasins Laura Groves The New York Fund Thom Stone Eugene Mcguinness Peggy Sue and The Pirates Jay Jay Pistolet Mechanical Bride Winterkids and many many many more....

i think that was spelt quite horrifically do forgive me i am dusty.
and the queen's chums were rather nonchalant towards us,,,,,, later in the night when they were drunk they were far less refined. oh my it was a sight to behold
and yes some form of list would be lovely as long as we dont have to try and find that other entrance again!
